you get better and stronger armor down the line .. "light armor " is the bad and beginner armor
Or check out this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1423
*note - this is an unofficial mod, independent from Iron Gate. Backup your saves before using.*
Not true I run nothing but troll armor as there is no Movement Speed Penalty wile using it. On top that you get the passive.
You won't die in the swamps troll armour if you have even a tiny bit of skill, and it's going to protect you well enough that you won't usually be a one-shot in the mountains as long as you're upgrading it and using decent foods. I just went to the mountains with a character that has only troll armour to kill a few wolves. I went in without any warm clothing/mead so I was constantly ticking down health and managed to kill a few wolves each time I ran in. I was able to take one hit from wolves when I missed a parry and I didn't die. Wasn't using great food (mushroom, berry, cooked meat) and I don't have fully upgraded troll armour yet. You just have to be really careful if you choose to keep wearing it past the swamps, and upgrade it as much as you can. Higher tier shields are more important than bronze or iron armour for me since I can usually dodge, block, or parry my way out of most situations.
Fully Upgraded it can probably handle the plains if you're a really good player.
Agreed though, this game needs more armors like it for higher tiers.
And it would fit the Viking theme.
Perhaps if they added bears & bear caves to the mountains, and let you craft a more agile bear skin armor.
And to anyone saying "That's just not Valheim." then explain the Troll Armor and high backstab multiplier on dagger.
Going into a situation solo where you'll need to fight multiple enemies at once, especially in an environment where you can't keep range, such as crypts and tombs, you want something heavier that can allow you to take a few more hits. And bosses should generally be fought with heavier armor.
No star Fulings for example hit for 110, 33 less from a full troll set, so 77 points of damage if one gets a clean hit on you. With plains level food you'll currently have somewhere in the range of 200 health (subject to change with H&H) so it would take 3 hits in a short period without you healing, using potions, or anything else, to kill you.
For H&H for a rogue/ranged build you'd want to focus on Stamina foods so that you can maintain your mobility, but you'd still want enough Health so you won't get one shotted.
All my games are played with no more then Troll armor or less it is easy to do. I run new seeds and no death runs all the time.
My last no death run was the Spartan challenge, so I only armor I had was cloak and helm spear sword and shield only weapons.
Troll Armor is totally fine up until Plains at which point star fulings will finally be a problem. It's 100% viable in swamps, fairly good in the mountain, and finally starts to show cracks in the plains. In my most recent playthrough I didn't upgrade from troll armor until right before Yagluth.
Troll armor is great for being lightweight, has no movement speed penalty, allows you to save countless hours of mining metal for armor, and provides boosts to stealth.
Light armor is amazing and we should absolutely have wolf & lox armor. More set bonuses too, wolf armor would be sweet if it increased some stat based on nearby allies, and lox armor could provide bonuses to carry weight.
And hell another advantage I can think of is that troll armor is at least easy to replace.
