Get to black belt to unlock the moves,
Learn how to use the moves,
Learn how to combo the moves,
Get faster/less sore,
Improve against other players,
teach newer players (if you feel like it),
and there's a third party hosted open season tournament going on.
In the next major update they will add character customization and cosmetics and such to unlock. That'll be done by winning matches for an in game currency to spend in the "gear shop".
I understand if you want to wait to join in. The player base isn't big but we are helpful. But with new players joining from this sale, it'll be a great time to find matches as you unlock your belts/moves.
The main appeal of this game is the cool feeling you get from the way it actually takes advantage of VR unlike a ton of games which feel like VR imaginations of a game that would work in monitor games. This game wouldn't be the same if it weren't VR.
If you like learning tricks, combos, and feeling like you are developing a skill while working up a sweat and improving with others in the community, then I would definitely recommend this game.
The replayability of this game is the progression system. It is all in your personal real skill that you work on. There's a brief unlocking the moves period but that is more like an extended tutorial really. The true progression is in your knowledge base and all the combos that you can train yourself to pull off at the perfect moments in battle!
I have well over 330h in this game now and don't see myself stopping anytime soon. There's so much to practice and people just keep discovering so many new things that you can do! Join the discord if you end up getting it because a bunch of us are willing to help and answer questions (it's rare that you don't get a helpful answer but another person will come along within the day and give you one if you haven't gotten one yet)
Since you have alot of experience, how is the playerbase rn? After playing broken edge i'm further intrigued by 1v1 pvp VR games, this one has been on my radar ever since I was in the playtest.
Can you reliably find matches without much issue? thats the one thing i worry about really.
I'm not OP, but I have 600+ Hours so far and would say that looking for matches in game, at night, is not ideal, but the Discord https://discord.gg/sn9hTbwp (Actively Dev Ran) has a "@Ping to Fight" Functionality that most people will use to find matches before hopping in game. During the day, it can take a couple of minutes to get into a random match, but you'll find one. Also, if you wait for a match, you know you'll be host to start (rematching swaps host)! It's First come first serve for Host.
Thank you! ended up buying it, got into a game despite it being 10pm
very fun, as more fun than I remember it being during the playtest.
I'm really glad to hear you ended up getting it! The playerbase is really active right now and there's a ton of new players so this is the perfect time to get into it! It seems a combination of some youtube videos blowing up, the 25% off discount and word of mouth all hit at the exact same time!
In the lobby area, there is practise dummy of varying difficulty levels, it's not super complex but to my knowledge that is about the extent of 'singleplayer'.
I can't say I've experienced much connection issues in the majority of my matches give or take a few cases (although I'm from the EU and have had no issue finding people in my region so far) but this limitation is also why the host switches upon rematch.
It could be I've gotten lucky and have only had people with good internet for all of my matches, and I myself have very good internet on top of that, because I cannot say that any of my matches have been at all unplayable, regardless of which of us is the host.
