We understand voice chat is invaluable for player experience, but it also has to be approached with care, since "the wrong people" can really ruin the whole experience if there is no proper way to configure voice chat options.
But definitely a good suggestion, and something we are considering!
A push to talk feature may work well so we don't hear the opponent breathing heavily while playing, hopefully people aren't toxic toward each other, it is a game after all <3
I deeply appreciate your consideration of 'the wrong people' bringing the experience down, because that's very true.
If I were to offer a suggestion, perhaps a way to leave the choice of whether to engage in voice chat at any time to the player, such that even if 'the wrong people' start to abuse the system, its easy to disengage with any specific individual. Like an earpiece/wrist menu that can be touched to enable/disable voice chat features?
Or even better, no voicechat during fights. When you go online matchmaking just disable the voicechat automatically during a fight, maybe let players talk before and after.
Only enable all-time chat on practice grounds, cause people tend to thrashtalk during and after the fights, so to avoid toxicity I'd maybe even enable voice chat in a lobby. Fist bumps before a match are more than enough xD
I understand where your coming from, but I personally have had lots of moments during matches where, for example, I'm against a newer player struggling to make pillars, or get Straight to work or something, so I do my best to teach them how but miming isn't very good for that because its hard to convey any nuance there is to the action.
What about some location based settings at the options rock to toggle where you want voice chat to be enabled? I think something like that could work in conjunction with my earpiece idea because then if someone like you doesn't want voice chat at all in any given area for whatever reason, they can disable it by default in the settings but can still opt in if they want to in the moment with the earpiece.
That was just a train of thought kind of idea though. What do you think?
