I can't launch the game

yeap same I click the icon then click launch game it checks version and then that window closes and nothing else.\

Guess uninstall and sad to as it looked like a decent game

Try restart your computer and set initial settings to default 800x600 window graphics. It worked for me. And you get "failed to authenticate", you may have to restart the game client. I'm using Steam launcher, but I used to use the UWO client years ago.

not sure about anyone else but had a decent size update when I tried the game today and it finally loaded!

Not sure if the issue i have faced is related with thread starter issue or not. But i have found the workaround on game launching issue related with new installation and failure on update. I just downloaded UWO from Papaya and Steam, but both failed to launch and update seems failed to download and installed. After launching the game via steam launcher/GVOnline.exe, I kept getting 'Aborted update (105:3)' error. But then, inside the installation directory, the patch is actually downloaded and i tried to manually install it (the patch identified inside directory as 'uwoXXX.exe'). After manually installed the patch, i relaunch the launcher and the next patch will be downloaded and will repeat the same step with the manual install until finally the client updated to the latest version.

Bit late but just in case anyone else stumbles onto this thread in the future.

Right click the game in steam > Hover over `Manage` > click `Browse local files` > right click `GVOnline.exe` > click `Run as administrator`. This will let the game update, wait for it to update and then you can play the game.

As a side note you only need to do this once after the game has updated it will work just by running it normally through steam, you might need to run as admin again once a new update is released though.

This solution and a fresh install from steam helped. Thanks a lot.

Run as administrator, also for me worked when checked Run as Windows XP Service Pack 3 option. If not solved,check Gameguard anti virus exception or firewall.

Just tried downloading the game and was having this issue. After trying this fix, it still didn't work, but running in compatibility mode for Windows 8 did.

Either way, some compatibility mode is bound to work for you, so try that + admin mode.

This happened to me too. The reason that caused me not able to launch the game was the updates did not run continuously to the latest version. I had to relaunch the game many times and keep the updates going. After many tries, the game was updated to the latest version and able to launch.

Run as Windows XP Service Pack 3 was for me the only way to get it working
