Just What the Hell Happened to Homura?
Shinovi Versus Homura was OP and bad@$$
Estival Versus nerfed Homura some, but she was still a really good character

But Burst Re makes Homura kind of a pain now. Her guard startlag seems worse than most of the cast and her heavy attack takes much longer to charge. not to mention the burn status that she used to have is hardly at all prominent in her moveset anymore, meaning less lingering damage.

Sure, Shinovi Homura needed a nerf and Estival did her well (despite being kind of a mess itself), but this feels like Brawl Meta Knight to Smash 4 Meta Knight level of Nerfing. poor Homura hardly does any damage now

It isn't just Homura, alot of characters feel nerfed and underpowered due to the combat changes. Everything is slower and more clunky with longer re-charge times and the inability to cancel most attacks, it makes characters with Homura's playstyle feel very weak and prone to counters.

It really is a shame since Homura was one of the SK OGs and one of my top five SK gals

Devs made sure to buff Yumi though, the bastards.

Well I can agree somewhat with the first part. My Haruka isn't the same anymore. and Imu oddly feels slower than she did in EV (which is saying something)

Though some of the girls like Murasaki, Ryobi, Katsu, and possibly Minori have been buffed.
I'd hardly say that Yumi got buffed. more like she feels somewhere in between her SV and EV incarnation. Same can be said for the likes of Yomi.

With Burst ReNewal being my first SK game, all I can say is if I hold Guard against the generic mooks in 3-star difficulty, I am effectively locked into it unless I use a Limit Break to get out, because mooks will just spam attacks and I won't have a chance to get out of it at all.

Is that normal?

That is normal, most of the time getting out of the mobs way is by using Tech or LB, sometimes if you're lucky when they're not hitting you can get out unscathed.

That said combat is janky sometimes because game focused too much on blocking or breaking enemy defense.
Some AI were like perfectly programmed to spam same ♥♥♥♥ so its either to annoy the ♥♥♥♥ out of you or forcing you to cheese as well.

I haven't touch Shinovi versus or Estival (according to timeline),
but based on playing Homura, her combat is janky as hell in burst renewal.
She's like completely vulnerable against multiple mobs or a character enemy that keeps spamming evade/recover.
2nd skill likely a miss than a full hit and using 3rd skills will make her even more rubbish while transforming compared Asuka transformation.

If there's a character that still annoy me it do probably playing Hibari and Mirai.
While Mirai being the worst against multiple mobs and barely had any decent break guard + a very slow attack animation.

I will start playing EV and SV soon.

Burst Gameplay amuse me but at the same time it felt really short and fight against enemy characters felt so unsatisfying because for whatever reason despite being stunned your skill still can middle not completely hit.

It's because Shinovi Versus is after burst renewal and deep crimson and Homura changed and growed a lot. In Hebijo, before she become a renegade she is in pain and the explication for her comportament in Estival versus is because, sadly they only care about Yumi and ♥♥♥♥ the plot and the other characters, the important to they is only Yumi and the sexual part.
