How does training grounds work?
Just wondering how does the training grounds work?
does the level of the building effect how much exp gained per turn? if not what does the level of the building effect? And what's the max trainable level with/without the training ground building?

Edit (May 14, 2019): This post is obsolete. Please refer to the in-game help manual for the Training Grounds improvements.

The training grounds gives 1 xp per turn to each unit it can train.
The road level determines the number of units it can train per turn (1 unit base, plus 1 per road level).
And the improvement level determines the maximum level a unit can be trained to: 2* improvement level. So at level 10 the training grounds can train a unit to level 20.

There is no interaction with the building Training Grounds, despite the same name. But the XP gain stacks with the all city buildings that give xp, and stacks with all abilities that allow units to train other units (the Trainer, Master Trainer, Grandmaster Trainer abilities).

It is a somewhat rare improvement. I usually build 1 for where ever I like to assemble/gather my new units. And build a few more in locations (depending on map size) where I have defensive armies that don't move around much, so they can sit and gain additional xp.

Do your units have to sit on top of the training grounds to gain the experience? Or is just being in the city enough?

Tanaka: There are several buildings you can make in your city that give additional experience per turn. You can also do the Gladiator tournament multiple times for extra experience.Better to Save the tiles for important stuff like food or resources

Yes I have built those and adding this one stacks but still does not answer my question if your units need to be in the tile to gain the additional stacked training? I'm assuming yes considering road/improvement levels and all...

Or wait does this just refer to workers on the tile and the units need to be in the city?

For the buildings; experience is gained for workers and units within that city radius. I got workers that are level 8. As for the training grounds; that is unknown to me

They have to sit on the training grounds improvement. The way the training grounds gives xp has also changed since this post was made. The in-game help manual is correct.

I have read the in-game description, and have a question. If I build a training grounds in the radius of city X, will buildings that provide exp. built in neighboring cities increase the effectiveness of the training grounds? Or just those buildings built in city X?

Just City X afaik.

You can also build training grounds outside of any city radius, and it will still work as said in the tooltip. It's true you won't benefit from any city improvement bonuses, but you can still train units.
