Suggestion for Blood Orc Battle Troll Hero using more items
My first lesser hero sticking to my rule I got a Orc Witch Doctor I picked for my first lesser hero and later while rolling for my 2nd hero it was either a Orc tribal warrior or a Blood Orc Battle Troll so I went with the Blood Orc Battle Troll.

Now the Blood Orc Battle Troll can only use one item and the Troll has 2 arms so in AD&D Games I know they can also throw rocks and probably even use clubs sorta like a moss giant.

The thing is if a Moss Giant or a Ogre can use more items the Blood Orc Battle Troll should as well if they can use a heal potion not being dum that would also suggest they can probably use more items since they are aggressive by nature and like to use things to hurt enemies my thoughts on that.

So in conclusion It would be nice if they could use a bit more items then just 1 item especially since Blood Orc Battle trolls have a few major weakness like fire and acid and being limited to just 1 item I do not think is a proper balance for this unit type considering also their 2 great weaknesses

So far the Blood Orc Battle Troll seems to be a great tank and having his little companion hero the Blood Orc Witch Doctor is a nice little pair team for dungeon hunting lairs etc and soul gems will probably come fast. Once I got the Troll a few turns later I found Troll Claws of extra attacks so he can attack 4 times which is amazing especially to find that item so quickly. I named him Gumtar for the Battle Troll and The Orc Witch Doctor I named him Grog.

I also think there should be perks you can learn to open up new item slots for your heroes and units that would work good for the Troll item idea so maybe he'll get smarter as he gains levels to open new item slots that would be a nice perk upgrade while keeping him limited at earlier levels. Maybe 1 new item slot every 5 levels would be good for those that are limited I mean they can be taught I'd think overtime by his Orc brothers. As for some units that have max item slots maybe allowing for a bit more item slots as a upgrade as well at much higher levels might be a good thing to because basically one can wear a lot of rings on their finger or necklaces or maybe even more extra layers of armor since the hero is a higher level and should be stronger as well.

I'd also like to say some units should be able to carry more food and natural resources then others like for the Troll he should be able to carry 2 or 3 times more resources then just a regular small unit since they are very strong that would be a nice addition to the game as well and realistic being the most important then every unit carrying the same amount of resources and food stack.

Maybe the Blood Orc Battle Troll doesn't have the vanity that other heroes have. They don't need all that bling, bling that items provide. Trolls don't wear rings, necklaces and a jacket

They are pretty strong but maybe allowing at higher levels a potential item slot opening as a level advancement perk upgrade would be a nice addition the thing about some units getting smarter but good either way I suppose but would be nice to see. I did check and saw the Moss Giant and Ogres can use a lot more items then the Troll can so they are at a disadvantage when you also consider they have 2 weaknesses one being fire and another being acid compared to the Moss Giant and Ogre which do not have those weaknesses and can use more item slots which is why I think it should come into consideration about the request. I think they are a bit nerfed currently based on the Ogre vs Moss Giant vs the Battle Troll...

I wonder who would win a fair fight between those 3 Giant type units.

I did see a Moss Giant Lesser hero in a Lair they do a lot more damage vs a Lesser Hero Battle Troll and they also can wield a lot more items with no weaknesses vs a Troll only being able to use 1 item and having fire weakness and acid weakness so yes trolls are at a big disadvantage losing many item slots and having a few weakness which I am ok with the weakness part just the item thing but Ill conclude now maybe the Developers will look at this unit sometime for a possible future update.

We haven't finalized how to approach this problem. These are the options, and we are leaning towards number 2 :

1. Do you think the troll should be able to equip all items?
2. Or do you think the troll shouldn't be allowed to be a lesser hero?
3. Or do you think the troll should be as is?

Keep in mind there are other units, such as Dark Elf Battle Scorpion or Northman Snow Beast where this will also apply, and where number 1 probably will not be a valid answer."


I think number 3 won out in the end.

My small army fought some kobolds and a Moss Giant Lesser Hero that was in a lair

My Battle Troll Lesser Hero is Level 5 vs a Level 1 Moss Giant Lesser Hero

That Moss Giant would of clearly won the 1v1 as my troll was going down fast if I had not sent him some help with my Orc grunts so yes among those 3 giants I think Moss Giant comes first then probably the Ogre then the Troll but lets not forget the Hill Giant as well.

in the early mid and late game the Moss Giant Lesser hero has the best potential since he can use items and has a damage overtime with disease. Maybe the Troll will be ok later but I doubt it since no item slots at all except for one as I'll have to see how he develops but I think getting +2 hit points with regeneration does not suffice really for much when considering fighting other giant types that seems to be more dominating especially after seeing my level 5 Troll fight a Level 1 Moss Giant both being lesser heroes and I lost basically so that should say something right there now just think if that Moss Giant had items as well that is what I mean. Also even if the Troll could use more items he'd still be considered the weaker giant type since he already has fire weakness and acid weakness but I know in AD&D they have those weakness types and that is ok but I think that is enough of a nerf right there alone.

Now its time to go for my 3rd hero I am glad they increased the Soul gems needed for each additional hero this was a great feature to put in the game but something to consider as you get more heroes soul gem farming may be easier so maybe after a certain point maybe add that its going to start costing 10 soul gems for each additional cast or more depending at the rate of how fast you can farm for soul gems...

I mean if u got some solid heroes and they can go down deep levels in dungeons kill hundreds of units I could forsee soul gem farming would be easy to get even more heroes faster which in turn might bring some balance issues but time will tell.

If it does become a issue a possible idea is every 3-5 heroes the cost should keep doubling of how many soul gems is needed to add an another hero sounds like it would bring the proper balance.

I know each hero adds 5 soul gems that are needed but at some point maybe it should be 10 soul gems now or 15 or 20 etc something to consider for the mid and later game for large campaign games.

I thinking I just want to save soul gems for Lesser heroes and not make any units a core unless they get to a high level maybe 10 or something which might be a good idea.

Actually i just realized every 5 levels the troll gets +1 more health regeneration I can see how this can keep becoming more powerful overtime with hit and run tactics so the Troll could possibly be a good mid or late gamer.

I think the troll is a redundant late gamer because of the nature spell regrowth. If you get a high enough spell level in nature you can "buff" a unit on the world map and get the same results as a orc battle troll on a lesser unit that can also equip items.

However! if you gave the Troll regrowth as a world buff alongside his native regeneration do they stack? If so you now have an unstoppable unit unless it is hit by everything at once. Which is very unlikely given it's max hp and AI behavior.

All regrowth does is heals your units a certain amount of health when cast on the world map. I use this spell regularly after battles to heal my damaged units

In combat it has a chance to regenerate hp per turn though? It doesn't do anything like that on the world map?

It's a one-time heal per cast. Very good spell for that on world map.
