Nene doesn't deserve Shuuji after this point. remember the curse? yeah, her sexual drive is drastically lowered. meaning less sexy time. meaning less reason for him (and by extension, her too) to see each other. so many people wanna romanticize love as something much more but really, would you 'love' an obese and entitled waman with ridiculous demands? that's essentially the same thing with Nene. her sexual drive is lowered, but is her ability to nag, beach, moan, complain, demand etc. lowered together with it?
but i still feel bad for how he is left
The second timeline is the one in the restart world, where Nene is sent back. What happens in this world is entirely the perogative of Nene, and what she wants to do. We only ever see this timeline in the restart, which is where she has a clear goal unique to that route, so we don't know what she does in other situations.
However, the conclusion remains the same. When Nene finishes her fragments, she disappears from everyone's minds but the team is otherwise unaffected, so the romances and friendships are not destroyed.
So what I do know is that there are two different timelines, worlds as they call it in game, or branches which 9-nine(a different game) calls it where the first one is where you start the game and the second one is in the restart mode. But to me I find it really sad for the shuuji from the first timeline. He was the one who had to come to terms with Nene eventually having to disappear. And yet, he does anything he could to best keep her happy, even giving her parts of his heart in the form of shards without Nene knowing despite it having the risk of him never able to feel emotions again. We see at the end when Nene's wish is granted and she leaves the original timeline, Original Shuuji does in fact still exist but things start to change slowly similar to back to the future. Him and the others in that timeline no longer have Original Nene, but still have slight memories or remnants ish of someone who used to be there but is no longer there, hence why shuuji didn't want to take off the photo on the locker or the oc members didnt want to remove the extra chair despite original nene not existing in that world anymore. Somewhere along the line, I wanted to see if there was some way the original Nene could reunite with the original Shuuji, so I played till the end of the restart mode and even the afterstory of it, only to find out the original nene is with the Shuuji from the second timeline who is enfused with the shards containing memories and emotions of the original shuuji? This part is a bit confusing for me but what I take from it is that he has become both people in a way. Having both memories from both Shuuji's into one body. But adding time travel always confuses the heck out of me in any video game or film. Like okay, the restart shuuji now has memories from the original shuuji, but does that mean the original shuuji from the original world now lives in the restart world or does the original shuuji still live in the original world and has to live his new life without the original Nene? That part tears my heart up. I personally cannot just sit here thinking the restart story is all happy ending if the restart shuuji isn't actually the original shuuji. They never really show what happens to the original shuuji much as the last moments you see him is in a cliff hanger of sorts where he meets nene again and then the restart with the point of view of nene begins. So pretty much this is why I kinda feel like the ending although painted as a happy ending seems more like a bittersweet ending to me instead. Just my opinion anyway.
