Love the game, but dumb AI
I've loved the game ever since I had it as a hard copy back in 2000, but I always though that the AI was rather dumb in skirmish.

-Mostly building hover trucks and tanks
-Only making "low level" combot parts (basic, katana arm, axe arm, claw arm, recon, some times Offensive legs etc., but never more advanced, like; armor legs/torso, rotary blade arms, HTH legs etc.)
-RARELY recovering combot parts from the battlefield and never reverse engineer them (rescearch them)(even when I load them unto my own hover trucks and driving them into the enemy base, or make a combot, walking it into the enemy base and evacing the crew, it could stand/lie there for hours, never being touched, any human player, with just a little bit of sense, would take the part/combot, put it in their assembly and rescearch the part, and then maybe build them from time to time.)
Heck, I don't think the AI even thinks about building a research building, at all.
Heck, i've tried to analyse the different AI "personalities", I can't find any bigger difference, they're all uses the same tactic.

I've always hoped for a sequel, but it never came :( ,only fun was when I played against other humans, at least they could be challenging, with the AI, I can play maps with 7 AIs teamed up against me, and I would annihilate them with ease.
Only the campaign proved a challenge.

Hope that the game will support mods via STEAM, and that someone then makes one that adds harder AI opponents.

The whole idea behind the game (especially the combots, what's not to love about giant custumizable robots, but also the 3 layer map) is just wonderful.

I have an old installation of MF working on Win7 and the AI is pretty nice, Going en mass Combots with good parts, building on all three layers of the maps, even going for AI-Facility and stuff.
But the version via Steam has a lack of that? Maybe it has to do something with the patch/adjustments they have made for win8/win10 support....

I can confirm this as well, whenever I hop on skirmish with a bunch of AIs, they would build tons of hovercars especially parking them especially in mid-late game? near my bases for them to only get snipe by my turrets. I don't really get why would you need that many hovercars anyways later on when you already have sufficient resources.

Regarding "Only making "low level" combot parts" issue, very rarely I've seen a couple of AIs ever build advanced combot parts, one so far I've seen was from an enemy AI rimtech building two forcefield combots with dual wielding lazer gunz, but it's hard to come across those that often.

I really hope there's a solution/mod to improve the AIs in this game especially in skirmish.

Before the recent updates that changed them, I tried all of them, there was no difference.
Now, i'm still testing, but at least they build research buildings and different combot parts once in a while.

I don't know who did it and what exactly they changed, but it got better, really need someone to post what was changed whenever a game gets an update.

I've always been more upset at the stupidity of my own units. Patroling hovertrucks that don't bother repairing anything. Units blocking each other's way. Units attacking a factory instead of the turret shooting them or running off to their death.

Sadly there isn't any guide. Some are self-explanatory, any AI with a stupid name or an incompetent sounding one is an incompetent AI. Any Ai with land in its name spams land stuff. Ai with air in its name spams air. At least, I think thats the case.

the last time I played this was after I bought it, I got beat badly, maybe my ai is more vicious.. Not really sure I'd live to hopefully find one dumb enough for me to knock my rust off without a 6 combot rush at start
