There is tremendous demand for these kinds of games, yet there are almost none on the market. At best, there are the Sentinel Comics games, Champions Online, etc., but no true "make your own hero team" CRPG.
When companies like Marvel and DC--who jointly "own" the word "superhero" and can sue any company that produces media that looks even slightly similar to one of their trademarked characters and/or images ... when these companies periodically enforce their IP rights, one can only imagine the level of legal protection indie developers would require to not lose their shirts.
Well, i don't think they do that. Apart Marvel is now a part of Disney, who isn't know to use different aspects about something to make money (sarcarsm, please), there are a Minutemen in some editorials and the look of Minutemen is the same of spirit of the 76 (one of the captains america a long the times)
I think that is more heavy the people seek for known heroes. Only see what happens with the City of Champions game
Second, we'd need updated modding tools since the stuff that's originally available for modding is made for a VERY OLD version of 3D Studio Max.
Second and a half... STEAM. WORKSHOP. This would probably increase interest in the game by a great amount, even if we're to consider the possibility of 2K Games having to stop people from making Marvel/DC player models.
Third, a game like Freedom Force will definitely need crossover content to market the game. Most obvious one is from an older post of mine: Freedom Force vs Jack's army of slicers.
Other crossovers could be looked into, such as those involving smaller comic book publishers. Maybe the company behind Kick-Ass could offer their characters to help market the game?
