Custom Characters not working with FF
So I downloaded a number of custom characters from the various mod sites and the all appear fine when I unzip them to the custom folder path on FFv3R, groovy. However if I were to try to get them to work with 1.4 FF I just get a white cube on the character select screen.

I followed the instructions on the site and unzipped the custom files here:

C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Freedom Force\Data\Art\custom_characters

Files within the folder all seem to be in the right place and match with how the stock character folders are laid out.
Open the game and boom, cubed.
Has anyone encountered and resolved this issue at all?

Thanks,

I know the mods for FF can be a pain. The white cube indicates the hero file doesn't know where the meshes are. The simplest way around it is to use "ez hero v3.4", it will let you convert FF .hero files to FFvt3R files and vice versa, and will also let you assign the path to the mesh file so you get rid of the square.
One thing I've noticed, more on FF stuff than other things, is the people who create the stuff assume you know flipping *everything*; for example, batman character download #1 will just be textures for a (unmentioned) stock mesh; #2 will be a modified batman mesh WITHOUT textures, #3 will be textures that only work with #2, and #4 will just be the .hero file. And none of them will have any sort of documentation or description as to WHICH TYPE OF FILE THEY ARE.
your best bet possibly is to get one of the full mods thats been updated since it came out on steam; at least you'll get whichever characters come with the mod...

Most characters at http://www.alexff.com/ work.

Most issues have three reasons:
a) the download is for FFvtTR (FF2) --> use ez hero v3.4 to convert
b) you only have downloaded the skin and not the mesh
c) it's the wrong folder ("SteamApps\common\Freedom Force\Data\Art\custom_characters" is the right one)

A skin without the right mesh is a common and not easy to solve problem because some skins are made for some specific, user created meshes which are nowadays hard to find.
