Because this is a snooker game and in the game of snooker you win money for winning matches. It's just there for immersion, so you can watch it rising along with your ranking.
Why does in-game money always have to equal being able to buy things?? This isn't GTA Online.
Ah! That explains why when I go to customise player, the only options that change are the cue, pants and shoes. I can't change waistcoat, shirt or tie.
