Lore question
Does the Alliance have a full-on fleet carrier in addition to the Levy that we just can't access for whatever reason (IE fleet carriers are all deployed in other theaters or Levy was ready to go now and the bigger carriers weren't)? I can totally understand ANS not having fleet carriers in the game balance wise and think it should stay that way, but balance aside it doesn't make sense to me for them not to have at least a couple of heavier carriers to work with.

Pre-sudden civil war, the systems that comprise the OSP were nestled nice and safely at pretty much the very back of the alliance, because of how the space routes work no one could get there without going through the entire rest of the alliance. This means that most of ANS's assets are deployed up front near borders of other nations.

The whole OSP civil war thing escalated rapidly and not really intentionally by most parties involved. ANS had sent some forces to the gate as part of anti-terror operations, they had just had a major attack from some bethel aligned folks that doomed an entire colony and so had to crack down security wise. became a full blown war after some accidents happened and bethel forced everyone hands (both ANS and their fellow OSP planets) by immediately escalating these incidents into a war.

ANS almost assuredly has fleet carriers, they are just on the complete opposite side of the nation, and while there is hyperspace in neb, it still takes months or maybe even years to transit the entirety of their space. This whole war is basically local alliance patrols versus everything OSP can throw up in as small a time frame as they can scrap together. At least to my knowledge.

This is all very much subject to change as a note, and all my knowledge comes from a depreciated lore document that is stated to not be fully correct anymore. I figure we'll get more with the singleplayer stuff on the way.

Since they're basically the Soviet Navy, my interpretation is one of several possibilities:
- the Alliance has maybe one fleet carrier stuck in drydock most of the year because it's a technical mess that's falling apart on a regular basis
- the Alliance has been trying to design a fleet carrier for the last 30 years but bureaucratic incompetence mean it's unlikely to ever be built
- the Alliance did have fleet carriers but they were scrapped when the latest Fleet Admiral came in and reoriented the whole doctrine towards hybrid missiles
- the Alliance doesn't have any fleet carriers and doesn't care because they think missiles are what win space wars, and carriers are what secure planetary atmospheres afterward
Interesting. I figured ANS should have them, and assuming that part of the document is still accurate then the reason for fleet carriers not being available for the conflict is fascinating. Considering the entire point of the various Sci-fi FTL methods is to move ships far faster than is realistically possible, it's really neat to come across a version that while still super fast remains slow enough that they can't just drop a ship wherever they need it when they need it.

Edit: took too long to write that and missed the second post

Based on The Soviet navy specifically? Where did that come from? I always thought of it as more generic modern navy in space #3 that is reluctant to let go of the big gun WW2 surplus... too bad the pads are fixed emplcements. That idea makes me want to build a Meme Levy with missile silos on the bomber pads and two 450's on the port side fighter pads.

Most of the actual full fleet carriers are on the other side of the galaxy and or currently tied up in missions or dry docks. The civil war is still relatively a new development and they haven't yet authorised or been able to bring over any full fleet carriers to the Eastern theater yet.

They most assuredly have them, they just aren't here yet/aren't willing to use them here instead of somewhere else against more conventional naval threats and not this guerilla esk warfare rebellion.

I'm honestly really excited and wanting a ans carrier ASAP honestly tough balance be damned, even if it needs to be a mod :3
If wonder if the upcoming story update would feature one. After all, the dev had stated that carriers neatly fixed the problem of an SP campaign requiring the player to have a "flagship" that the player character is physically on, so you can't put it in danger, but you'd still expect it to be a reasonably powerful ship. The game so far seems to suggest we'll be playing as ANS (though if there's an OSP campaign, a Moorline is the obvious flagship choice), and a Levi seems like an underwhelming choice for a flagship.

Could be a hull that would be impractical, or at least difficult, to make a 3k point build of, requiring a bigger investment to make full use of it (a limitation that obviously doesn't apply in a campaign).

Not sure why ANS would have super carriers ?

It's tools for war, BIG war against ennemies of the same caliber. Unless there is another big faction you expect to fight, small/medium carriers are better (they do the job and cost less to buid/use...).

Now there is Solomons, if they built things like that there is probably still old, giant ANS carriers somewhere, but they would be quite outdated.
