Others like it.
What other games are like Nebulous but complete, finished with any DLC that might come with it.
I have found a couple that you could say were similar but there are not many, if any.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident has broadly similar gameplay, though nothing of its realism.

Homeworld is a decent proxy, but also softer sci-fi.

There isn't much out there that's for sure. Nebulous has the market to itself.
I found one called Battlestar Galactica which has some pretty decent fleet mechanics, and of course Homeworld which is in the same vein. Jupiter incident is one I had not heard of, I will give that a look.
Nebulous feels or reminds me of the series 'The expanse' which is a top series. I wonder if it was the series that inspired the dev's?

Nexus and Homeworld have been mentioned before as inspirations. Potentially some more ive missed.

From the amount of you tube vids I have watched concerning Nebulous, this looks like it's going to be the ultimate fleet management game. Saying that I am having a lot of trouble with the tutorials and understanding the game. You can't play a game like this until you understand it fully.

I don't think that''s true LeftPaw. I did not even bother to do the tutorials when I started and went straight away into the Fleet Editor and then Skirmishes against the AI and figured it out quick. Nothing about how the game works overall, how it plays, how it feels, the UI, the camera movement and aspects of that level are difficult, in my opinion. I think it's set up in way that makes sense. The harder part is the methodical nature of the battles.

People are thinking of it is probably like Homeworld or some traditional space RTS, so get frustrated right away because it doesn't work that way at all because it's more like a space version (and radar focused version) of a Cold War era submarine hunting game, in how it plays out.

The only other thing that takes time to learn is cons & pros, counters to certain parts/equipment/weapons and the nuances, which IMO is the funnest part of the game.

Anyway, I agree that Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is the closest thing to it. I thought it was pretty "realistic", if going the traditional hard sci-fi route, Expanse-like, unless you mean truly realistic space combat, which would be Children of a Dead Earth, which I thought was boring and basically "too realistic".

No. Development of this game predates The Expanse TV series.

everyone compares this to The Expanse just because both of them are set in space and dont have magic shields and jump drives. ridiculous.
CHOO CHOO Jun 17, 2023 @ 5:18am
It's the closest thing that the most people know. What else would they compare it to?

flotilla comes to mind. Turn based full 3d space combat. Story is a joke but some of the mechanics are nice.

If you like to building ships, Avorion. But the gameplay is completely different.

Oof, yeah. Avorion is really just an ARPG with largely cosmetic ship-building. There's no mechanical depth to it.
