Map and Navigation
Anyone else having issues with getting a proper point in space? I get a point where I think it is, and I back out to look and it is across the map.

For me the tactical map is a mess especially with asteroids. It takes me so long to create navigation points I am getting blown to hell.

Frustrating enough that I have to set it down and not play it.

Are you issuing move orders from realspace or tacmap (the views that are swapped between with the space key)? Trying to select a point in 3D space is a bit of a nightmare in realspace, it doesn't have the altitude lines that you get in tacmap, projected onto nearby rocks. From there, it's just practice.

Ya, I can't play in anything but the tacmap. I just don't get a broad enough view in realspace. Even in the tacmap I find I still want to zoom out more.

At one point I was aiming an ewar mod at a target and I tried 3 times to get it on target, and all 3 times it ended up way off.

I was trying to play in a skirmish to see how I could do, and trying to navigate between the asteroids was a nightmare. Zoom out and you could not get a good view of the point you wanted to hit. Zoom in and you could not get an idea of where you were coming from. In the time it took me to try and set 3 way points to get my ships around an asteroid, the AI had tore my ships up.

I am not sure I am just not getting the navigation, or if the UI is just too cumbersome and complex for me.

I know for the longest time I was manually aiming EWar cones myself before I finally stumbled upon the fact that you can directly aim at tracks the same way you would target weapons. Sounds like maybe you're in the same boat I was in (pun intended). Targeting a track directly means your cones will track the target, and by extension your ship will maneuver to keep enabling that. Hope that helps that specific issue!

Use the references in tac view to navigate. To get to a point I usually get the "Y-axis" first, using the terrain line for reference. Then I adjust the distance next. Usually this get me the navigation point I want precisely and quickly.

just to add on about the POS firing stuff. When you pull the range in for weapons you actually get tools to help you aim. Enemy tracks will draw a dotted line leading to a circle, if you click on the circle you will POS fire directly at the track. This also applies for objectives. This can help you manually aim between two ships, simply line up on one circle and then move it to the area between.

Movement is a bit rough early on, but you start to get it down and begin making pretty precise movements after a while. I know thats not particularly helpful but I just wanted to say it does get easier after some adjustment. 3D movement is *hard*.

Personally what makes it hard for me is that there is no 'rotate view' key, and the click+drag method of turning the viewpoint is just not sensitive enough and ends up with too many misclicks if I have a command active.

I know it's probably just me, but making say Q and E rotate view would be amazing.

Ya, it is this when I am trying to move around objects. It is really hard to see a path.

I feel like somethings are easier in a wide view and some in a narrow view. It is just time to time, those kind of clash where I need a bit of both and can't do just that.

I could totally see this as a VR game where you might have a lot more control over the view.

i feel your pain OP. the system is functional, but far from intuitive.

frankly i hope that the whole system gets another pass at somepoint with ui mods and accessibility settings in mind, i personally found homeworld to have a more intuitive movement system and would abolutely love if we could mod the controls and interface to be whatever we want.

i love this game, but it makes it hard to recommend to friends, you know what i mean?
