I'd guess they will be worked on as game develops further, but creating an AI in a game complex as this one aren't likely to be an easy task.
Later down the line, Conquest mode is currently being developed and likely support a single player as well.
I ended up buying it and going through a few tutorials and a few skirmishes and it's a pretty sweet space battle "sim"? Feels like battleships in space. Really strong "The Expanse" vibes.
I really enjoyed the missile and systems tutorials and utilisation. Big battle cruisers are pretty awkward in combat though and AI does't seem to want to really help out in skirmishes - just kind of does it's own thing more or less.

You have two teams and you can add human players and cpu team mates however you like up to the map limits.
