Mac Player asks about controller v. mouse
Hellol I've just started playing BioShock Infinite. It's the first computer game I've played, except for Machinarium. Really enjoying it, but finding it difficult to shoot and navigate from the trackpad of my MacBook Pro (laptop.) Should I be thinking about a game controller? Or just a mouse perhaps? I've seen gaming mice that have extra buttons which could be good. But I don't want to get the worng one. When I get back to London I'll try my Macally iShock, if no one has any better suggestions. Thanks very much.

In my oppinion any mouse would be an improvement over your trackpad. A controller has the advantage that all buttons are easily reachable (as opposed to keyboard) and you can in principle sit on the couch while playing ;)
However the disadvantage of the controller is the slow turning and unprecise aiming. I started playing with an Xbox 360 controller on windows and found it horrible because I couldn't turn quickly enough. Using a mouse improved this significantly.

I would think about buying a PC. Apples are junk to play games on, they are very limited in the gaming world compared to a PC. You will never, EVER, see a pro gamer bring an apple computer to the tournament. Always a PC. Not trying to be mean, but I just never get why people try to game on an apple. The experience is always awful and slow. Especially when it comes to a comfortable gaming setup for a mouse and keyboard alone. Its almost impossible.

Youlll get a better all around gaming experience on a PC try it on a friends PC and Im sure youll fall in love. Did you know apples get viruses now? So there is no reason to hold on to that old school apple lingo excuse that you dont get viruses. Take care and fun gaming bro!

Simply put, buy a mouse. When I had a laptop, the first thing I did after I recieved it was buy a mouse for it. I hate trackpads. I find it awkward and slow to just operate a computer with one, let alone play a game, which I would think would be next to impossible. I game with just a baseline Logitech mouse that cost about $30, probably less online.

I'd make sure that the mouse has a least two distinct buttons and a center mouse wheel. These things are natively supported by OSX should you should be good to go.
Thanks to all three who've answered my question. I have a good sense now of what the options are. Short of buying a whole new computer, I think I shall opt for a mouse! Again, I really appreciate all your responses. -Luce

Buy a mouse, and not the Apple Might mouse. A regular mouse will suffice.
Will do. Thank you.
