no desktop icon?

I currently have to open steam to start the game.
I am moving to an area where I will not have internet for a while,
is it possible to get the game downloaded so I have a desktop icon and do not need steam access to play it?

um, you can get the desktop icon by right clicking on it in the library and going to properties, as for the no steam and no internet connection, you will always need to run steam in the background, but you will not always need to be logged in. Just go to the steam menu and choose Go Offline... then, until you switch back, your steam client will not try and connect before allowing you to play, however, YOU MUST HAVE ANY GAME YOU WANT TO PLAY IN OFFLINE MODE UP TO DATE BEFORE SWITCHING TO OFFLINE MODE.
