Unable to save game. Unknown read / write error

At every checkpoint, my game say's unable to save game in the pause menu, when i hit enter, game gets minimized and and the Unknown read / write error is there. When I click ok, I get taken back into the game. Plus the game actually saves, i've verified this a few times.

I tried validating files in Steam, I removed profile.bin from the game save directory and still got a read / write error at every checkpoint.

Anybody else have this problem and or have the fix?

Have you looked at the install directory and the save directory (not sure if it is in My documents or not) and made sure that they are not read only? right click on the folder and choose properties and then look at the bottom of the pop up and there should be a box which says read only... you'll probably need to figure out where the saves are to check... also what windows are you using? i'm in 7 and it works fine...

I am having this same exact problem. I always get the "an error occurred when attempting to save your profile" message at every checkpoint. I tried following your advice concerning the save folder but I can't even find it...i'm almost afraid I have to reinstall the whole thing?

From what I can tell go into steam C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\XXXX\8870\remote\savedata thats the save game - then right click properties and see if it is read only - if it is then unclick it... you could just make 8870 readable i guess... mine is read only but i'm not gettign an error. might have to do with your windows account security options... i'm n win 7.

Ok I found a way to get rid of the error while still being able to juggle around multiple saves / playthroughs. Go into the bioshock infinite save folder @ \Steam\userdata\xxxx\8870\remote\savedata. Now whatever extra folders you created here to hold another saved game, just drop into the folder before /savedata, which would be the remote folder. Whichever playthrough files you want to load with the game, put all the .bkm and .sav files into the /savedata folder. You should now be able to playthough the save without getting a read/write error at each checkpoint. Worked for me.

Glad you worked it out as I know even having to click an ok on an error evertime it auto saves is a pain...

this same thing is happening to me, except on the xbox version, and i cant help but think that since i logged into the game and had it update, someone created a bug in the system and f'd up the saves cause before it updated i had zero problems with the auto save. not cool -.-

WTF? I pay money for this game!!! And it have bug!!!! And today path not created! I downoload next game from torrent!!!

Ray954: Thanks for the info. I was having the same problem. I also had made copies of the savegame directory next to the original. Named xx savegame xx##. For all other games that has worked OK. Getting rid of the extra directories solved the problem.
