Replaying chapters & starting a new game (questions)
I finished the game, but before I do anything else, I wanted to ask a few questions on how things work once you've completed the game:

1) I understand that once you complete the game, the 1999 mode unlocks, right? If I start a new game, do all of my previous saves and chapters disappear, or can I still replay them? If I understand correctly, you can only have one game save at a time, so I'm assuming that if I start a new game, everything from my previous game will be lost?

2) Instead of starting a new game, can I replay chapters that are saved from my just-completed game? If I replay a chapter that is in the middle of the game, what happens to all of the other chapter saves? Will everything be lost that is after the chapter I select to play again? For example, if I choose to replay a chapter somewhere in the middle of the game, do all of my chapter saves after that disappear? Or can I just randomly reply chapters at will? If so, then how does the auto-save work if I am replaying a chapter?

I would like to start a new game, but I don't want to lose everything. I may want to replay the very ending sequence again before starting a new game, but I want to make sure I understand how the save and chapter system works.

Thanks!

Start a new game it overwrites your previous stuff. Same with replaying chapters. Everything after will be gone. What I did was go to my save game folder, copy it out onto my desktop then start a new game. In case I wanna reload my old one.

You have one save per checkpoint as in when you go into an area it saves the game at that checkpoint, and overwrites at the next checkpoint. However you do have one save per chapter start that is overwritten when you go to that chapter on another game.

No.

I have no idea how it works if you start a new game, but I do know that going back to an earlier chapter doesn't remove the later chapters you've unlocked from being in the chapter select list.

Did for me. I went back to replay the second to last chapter and had to quit early and I noticed the last chapter wasn't selectable after.

Hmmm, thanks for the replies guys. Guess I'll wait for a few more responses. If I start a chapter in the middle, I definitely don't want to lose all of the chapter saves thereafter.

Also, if I save the folder for my current game save, I've read that it doesn't work if you copy it back into the main folder to attempt to reply you previous game. I read that there is something else you need to save aside from the game save fodler to keep it all for replaying later? Anyone know anything about this? Ideally, I'd like to archive my entire game save for this playthrough, then start a new game, and have a way to revisit the old game at a later date.

Have a read of http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/BioShock_Infinite

There's a save game section that I used. Also, some of the tweaking stuff works.

So I followed that wiki and backed up my gamesave folder after disabling cloud sync with Steam. Has anyone successfully been able to use that backup to reload their previous game? I mean, let's say I start a new game now that I've backed up my old one. It wipes out the directory that I backed up and starts a new save. Now let's say I want my old game back, I just wipe out the current directory and copy back the old one with my old game save?

I thought I read in a few places that this doesn't work - that you need some other file(s) along with the game save folder to get an old save to work again?

Can anyone who has successfully backedup and replayed a backed up game save comment further? Thanks.
