Pre Loading

I'm currently pre loading this game because steam told me it will help it start faster for whent eh game actually comes out. But I'm just curious as to what exactly is pre loading? Is it just downloading a lot of the game or something? Can some one tell me what this means, what I'm doing technically?

It's just dowloading the game before you can play it. Your really just skiping the hour or two of dowload time on release day.

yeah it will unlock at a set time, and rather than download from that set time, you play it instead because you have pre-loaded it. Just cuts out the formal download time.

if u preload it now u dont have to wait when it comes out and on the 26th u can play it and engoy the game :-)

I pre loaded as well, my internet is really slow (600kb/s) so I can play instantly on release day :3.

Imagine that some people still have bandwidth caps on their connection. I know a provider somewhere in another country that serves 100 Mbit up and download with a bandwidth cap of 500 GB a month.

Glad this country uses no caps (netherlands), got 100 mbit upload and download (fiber connection) and the fatest in this country you can get is 500 Mbit or 1 Gbit in some areas for consumers.

No, I am downloading at full speed, THAT is my full speed :). I am not restricted I can download whatever I want.

Edit: I meant kilobyte. It is not a slow internet but not that fast either, gigs are taking hours for me, I got used to it.

If you don't live in the city here you won't get anywhere above 16mbit/s at the moment. So I loaded with like 2mb/s.

Jeez my I wish my internet was better I am getting 1mb/s which acutally isn't bad preloding from 9:00am to 1:50pm I have 87% done already.

pre loading - downloads an encrypted copy of the game 'early' (before release date) so on release date it simply has to connect to the server and download the decryption key, and then decrypt the contents of the files (locally) on your mahine, without having to do the download... which makes the servers more happy too as they will get hammered on the release day

IrrationalGames announced over 30GB of content for PC version, Steam offers 15GB pre-load. Question: were we ripped of 15GB? each :D

No, I am downloading at full speed, THAT is my full speed :). I am not restricted I can download whatever I want.

Seems to be around the same speed as what my download is like. I usually download in the middle of the night where I can get a whopping 900kb/s!!! ;-) haha...

If it is divided into two, I am going to have a nightmare downloading the other half with my slow internet haha.
