I'm just going through the game right now, wondering when it's going to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ save so I can go do something else. I've been through a loading sign, traveled across a skyrail system, killed about 10 people, pulled a lever and when I go to exit it still says the game was last saved nearly half an hour ago and all my progress since then will be lost.
There are other games that handle auto-saving a lot better. The Arkham games for example. They save when you level, complete side missions, get collectibles, objectives etc. so you never have to worry about progress being lost.
And if you need to leave the PC, just pause it. No problem.
Without it you could kill one enemy without getting hurt, and save....
Then just go on and on doing that, until you make it through a section of the game.
What's the sport in that?
You are going to take some damage, you are going to have to learn and adapt your tactics to make it through a whole section without getting killed, or lose a little money.
You are going have to use your brain, and not save every few seconds.
Nobody gets killed more than me, I'm 56 years old.
Life is not about if you win or lose, it is a test of character, we will all lose in the end.
I had to start the game all over becasue I didn't hunt for money, upgrades, and generally didn't get it, the first time around.
I may have to start all over again, but I don't care.
But there have been plenty of games where I've wanted to clear an area just right, and I'll get a really sloppy run and hit a checkpoint or something halfway through. And I'm just stuck with that crap run that didn't feel good. But oh well... Now I only have three guys left to kill. Might as well get it over with and move on, at this point.
With how these checkpoints are spaced out, you NEED to get that good run. In 1999 mode, you can't stumble through. You will be punished for sloppy strategies. And I absolutely love- not just being able to perfect my approach- but actually NEEDING to. I haven't needed to do that in a while with games.
I have yet to try quitting, without having to play another 5-10 minutes because my last save was 25 minutes ago.
It just makes no sense. I don't even need a traditional save option, just give me a damn "save and exit" option. When I played this the first time on PS3 I just don't remember it being an issue, yet it could not be more frustrating atm.
Or a limited number of saves per hour...
