Lack of manual save points: Idiotic. Especially because this is being considered for GOTY. What will this say to other publishers?

yep no manual save option is my only real bugbear with this game...

It's just ridiculous. Why can't it save the game when I exit? I get and enjoy how it increases difficulty when you can't go back to a specific time and retry amillion times, but how does it improve gameplay to make me go through the same noncombat area and pick up everything I already did last time including journals? But if you die in combat, you still just return to right where you died, with everyone dead you killed in your life, and just the survivors left, I just don't see how it helps the game at all, seems lazy to me.

I'm just going through the game right now, wondering when it's going to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ save so I can go do something else. I've been through a loading sign, traveled across a skyrail system, killed about 10 people, pulled a lever and when I go to exit it still says the game was last saved nearly half an hour ago and all my progress since then will be lost.

Not sure but I think it saves every time you enter an area. So you can backtrack slightly to force saves. You're never that far from a new area door. But yes it's a poor choice from devs, the first game had manual saves so don't understand why they removed it.

There are other games that handle auto-saving a lot better. The Arkham games for example. They save when you level, complete side missions, get collectibles, objectives etc. so you never have to worry about progress being lost.

Bad game developer, no twinkie!
The saves are more frequent than half hour intervals.
And if you need to leave the PC, just pause it. No problem.

It took me a while to while to work out that you can scroll up and down through your saved checkpoints in the menu, by pressing W and S or the Up and Down Arrows.

They're not as frequent if you take the time to explore, a thing the game encourages you to do.
And I know at least one whacky developer who wanted to remove the pause option in a game.
I can assure you, I do explore.

I actually like this feature.
Without it you could kill one enemy without getting hurt, and save....
Then just go on and on doing that, until you make it through a section of the game.
What's the sport in that?
You are going to take some damage, you are going to have to learn and adapt your tactics to make it through a whole section without getting killed, or lose a little money.
You are going have to use your brain, and not save every few seconds.
Nobody gets killed more than me, I'm 56 years old.
Life is not about if you win or lose, it is a test of character, we will all lose in the end.
I had to start the game all over becasue I didn't hunt for money, upgrades, and generally didn't get it, the first time around.
I may have to start all over again, but I don't care.

This. Although I would've liked to be able to save while exploring this game, it didn't really impact my experience, because I powered through it in two or three sittings. Per run. I beat the game 4 times. lol

But there have been plenty of games where I've wanted to clear an area just right, and I'll get a really sloppy run and hit a checkpoint or something halfway through. And I'm just stuck with that crap run that didn't feel good. But oh well... Now I only have three guys left to kill. Might as well get it over with and move on, at this point.

With how these checkpoints are spaced out, you NEED to get that good run. In 1999 mode, you can't stumble through. You will be punished for sloppy strategies. And I absolutely love- not just being able to perfect my approach- but actually NEEDING to. I haven't needed to do that in a while with games.

I always just roll with it, no matter the save system
therabidcow Feb 8, 2014 @ 1:38am
Well, it does take a while to get used to the system. And also makes you plan your runs carefully (i.e. to make sure you have time to finish an entire area as you cannot leave the game when you want to)

That has to be the single worst thing about this game, I do not know who thought it was a good idea.

I have yet to try quitting, without having to play another 5-10 minutes because my last save was 25 minutes ago.

It just makes no sense. I don't even need a traditional save option, just give me a damn "save and exit" option. When I played this the first time on PS3 I just don't remember it being an issue, yet it could not be more frustrating atm.

Agreed with that, just a damn simple save and exit (in normal difficulty mode).
Or a limited number of saves per hour...
