BioShock Infinite
Infinite on Linux: Standing ovation!
Congratulations, Virtual Programming! This is just straight up THE most smoothly running "port" to Linux done so far. I am AMAZED by the performance. I gaze in wonder. This is a milestone, the bar is now set for others to follow.

Seriously, Linux gamers out there: THIS is a nobrainer. If you had it in the library already, buy it again. And once more. THIS is how we want to see games run on Linux. THIS is worthy of our dineros.

eON: All is now forgiven after W2. I shall no longer frown upon thee.

And this is the first DX10 wrapper to ever surface for linux, if I'm not mistaken. VP did what wine developers have been struggling with for 10 years. A great achievement indeed.
Mine crashes every time right after the little intro ads.

Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero MB
i7-4770k
Geforce GTX 770
Asus Xonar DX audio
16 GB Corsair Vengance RAM
Mine is completely broken... It took the aspect ratio from one of my portrait monitors and refuses to let me change it :/
I think that might be my problem. It was set to some 16x10 ratio, and when I set it to 1080p things got wonky then it died and hasn't come back since. Reloading from the ground up just in case.
A huge 2x FPS boost can be achieved by lowering "Ambient Occlusion" from Ultra to Normal, everything else is on Ultra. It's barely affects visuals though visible indeed. I'm getting 80-100 FPS (40-50 with High or Ultra) on 770 GTX, i7-2600. The game seems to be CPU bound though as there are reports of getting 60+ all the time on Ultra preset on the same GPU but differen CPU. Mine is 4 years old already, jeez. I feel like I've bought it last year.

I prefer though to keep Ambient Occlusion (since it gives more detail) and set Post Processing to normal.
It even looks better with Post Processing to normal, I'm not sure how Alternate (DX11) it was suppose to look on Windows but on Linux it actually removes the depth of field effect.
Hmm, it can't give more detail, it gives more little shadows and makes the overall picture darker a bit. Of course, a matter of preference. I'm not sure I would tell which level is where in a blind test comparing two screenshots with normal and ultra AO. And in motion the difference is completely negligible (for me). But having twofold FPS increase is something seen with a naked eye. As for the postprocessing, the only thing I noticed is FPS going down on the alternate mode.

And yeah, VP deserves a compliment for the port. Good work, really! If eON would occupy its niche further making it possible to play older games, I have no problem with it. The only fear was that it would prevent making new native Linux games resorting to wrapping Windows ones but seeing as Valve pushes Vulkan, SteamMachines and SteamVR I'm not afraid of it anymore. That said, it was confirmed that for now at least the Windows version runs at 2x better FPS. While I'm not that greedy and 60 stable FPS is perfectly fine for me, there's a space for improvements so that people with less powerful hardware would be able to play the game in its full beauty.

You didn't play Metro: Last Light and Borderlands 2 on Linux yet, right?:UT2004udamage:

Well, I don't mean more detail as in more detailed textures, but rather with more depth/relief due to those increased shadows.
I made a number of screnshots comparing various features on/off and AO looks to be one that adds more substance to the visuals.
But yes, a taste thing.

I still have some worries about VP being too successful, but I cannot but admire their results so far. Curious what is their next project.

Don't know about others, but personally I would place this port on the second place after Borderlands and Metro on third place.
Better than Metro Redux? The Metro Redux games ran and looked amazing on Linux, framerates higher than the Windows builds with like settings. No tessellation but it was worth it.

Metro games are running very well while I'm in the tunnels, not so well outside.
I will try this out tonight but this is a very good news! Thank you devs!

The performance of those two doesn't even come close. Try Infinite for an hour and you'll see what I mean. Metro is a slideshow in comparison, especially outdoors. It does well indoor, but that's also a much, much easier job for the gpu.

Borderlands are running great on Linux but if we compare the two, Borderlands feaure simpler graphics, effects and textures, but still are on average nowhere near the framerate of Infinite on my system. Not even close. Borderlands are usually quite steady at  ~60, may jump up to 100'ish but also with several periods going as low as down to 30ish.

Bioshock Infinite is *usually* hovering around 120, with 150 not being a rare sight at all (on "high"). If you face in an ideal direction my 680 spits out 200 frames with ease. You don't see that in BL2.

And you can easily set graphics details to "high" without much loss at all compared to ultra - only a massive frame increase.
