Atlas is real?!!! or is it frank fontaine?...
Last time I checked, atlas was just a name, not a person. Did fontaine actually take on the appearence of atlas or is atlas actually an individual in this weird alternate Rapture?

Fontaine spliced up so he could change his appearance and name in order to hide from Ryan.

Okay, I must've missed that somehow in my 2 playthroughs of Bioshock

It was implied through his speech plus there is an audio log that directly states it

He never spliced to the point where he was unrecognizable except when fighting Jack. He just asked Steinman to make one if his men look like him which was killed by Ryan's men but it wasn't the real fontaine. Then the real one took up the role of Atlas.

He didn't really Splice up that much to be honest with you. In fact if you look at the Wika article for Atlas you'll see some mention that his portrait is very similar to Fontaine's Something like the facial hair and head hair is only differente along with his accent.

They are the same person, Atlas is just an alter ego of Frank. He never spliced (up until the point the becomes that montereous brute) these things are cleary explained in Bio 1, and I'm kinda suprised you missed that.

Technically, Frank Fontaine is just another role for the guy who pretended to be Atlas. I think he killed the original Frank Fontaine to take that role and get into Rapture.

Well, at least that was before Infinite. I have no idea what things are like in this new order of events,

Spoilers for Bioshock 1.

Frank Fontaine took many different names and personas in his time. Both Frank Fontaine and Atlas were two of the name he took. He was a business man and a con-man, who was always re-inventing himself. [\spoiler]
