Is this game too easy and its gameplay boring and simple ?
Hi,

I just bought this game with the season pass during the sales...but I don't know what to think of it right now.

The pitch and the atmopshere are awesome, but I played the other two Bioshock games and liked them, and this one feels a bit more like a classic or common FPS than a Bioshock.
I am playing in hard mode, and I find it pretty easy so far, all I have to do is shooting the ennemy, and I don't even have to care about the powers or my life since the shield is there.
I only have possession, fire and crows, but those powers feel kind of weak, and I don't even need to use them.
In fact I find this Bioshock almost boring gameplay wise, if it did not have that great spitch, visual and atmosphere, I would not say it is an interesting game...

On the other hand, I have to admit that I am playing with the Weapons and tonic DLC pack included with the season pass ( improved gold gun and machine gun, tonci and else).
I hate those DLC that makes you OP, but I did not really have the choice, and Dishonored had the same thing.
But I foudn it cool in Dishonored, because this game was not really about real difficulty.
The challenge was about compleating your mission the way you wanted to, and having early items gave you jsut more possibilities, and mroe fun.
So I thought it could be the same for that Bioshock Infinite and tried the game with it anyway...
Now I think this DLC migth be breaking my experience.

Is the DLC to blame for the easy playthrough or is it just the game ?
I think I found way to get rid of that DLC, but I don't want to restart from scratch the game...

Any thought, opinion or advice about this matter ?
Does the game get harder ?
Will I find better powers ?
Are those tonics only available with the DLC (electric mele attack, 75% bigger magazine for weapons...)

Thx

This game really isn't terribly difficult, especially if your aim with mouse + keyboard is any good, though there are a few challenging sections. There is a challenge mode after you win the game called 1999 mode, but I haven't played that yet. There are 9 powers in the game and lots of tonics to find.

It feels that way at first but, then it picks up. There are some boss levels that are way more difficult than others. The story is the most enjoyable part.

I don't know about the DLC but some months ago, I tried playing in 1999 mode and found it moderately challenging. That means that any other difficulty even hard is fairly easy if you max out your shield and try not to be to hasty.

OK thx, I decided to restart the game without that crap DLC sigh ><
I'm not that far anyway, at least I hope, (just entered the heroes museum)

By the way, are the powers included in the DLC alwready in the based game ?

Thx

I noticed that you've been having some trouble finding what exactly is in the Early Bird special pack, so just to clear things up:

I always thought it was pretty easy, but this is how I see it: it's hard enough to keep me entertained, but easy enough to feel like a badass genociding everyone.

Yea but now I realise the easy difficulty is not the only problem, the game feels much more brutal ( don't knwow the proper word in english, in french: it is "Bourrin").
I change the topic title to depict that.
It was the same int he previous Bioshock, but powers (plasmid) were good enough to enable some strategies.
They feel very weak in Infintie, and I'd rather shoot evrything in my sight with guns.
Less powers also means less protection, so you can''t not get hurt.
So overall I try to find some cover, not to get hit too much, be in the end I go in front of the ennemies, get hit, and fire back on the oppenents...not very smart or entertainng, it feels like a generic FPS witrh no cover system...

I miss the stealth opportunities the older Bioshock offered.
In fact I was playing Bioshock 1 and 2 with a stealth and melee build, hope I will be able to do that later in Infinite.

But I might forget how Bioshock 1 and 2 offer less option at the begening of the game, to give you plenty the more you play.
Hope It will be the same.

Mr Mc Suave => Thx for the link, I indded checked those items, and theya re only enhanced version of gears alwready int he main game...therefore, I am not interested in them anymore.

I finished the game in 1999 mode and while I wouldn't call it entirely easy, it wasn't very "challenging". The gameplay follows rather basic linear shooter design. There are some neat tricks with the Skylines and Vigors, but the core gameplay doesn't inspire the player to come up with elaborate player strategies. Take away those two aspects and the game may as well be Call of Duty: Steampunk Warfare.

Dishonored is a good comparison. That game was also pretty easy if you took the path of least resistance, but the gameplay systems lend to a lot of interesting player strategies and scenarios. A stealth/pacifist playthrough is entirely optional but is a challenging and rewarding way to play.

This is a step backwards from Bioshock 1 and 2 I think, which had some shortcomings but was much more inspired by an older RPG philosophy of giving the player optional ways to solve a problem.

Yes this is unfortunately the way I feel for the moment.
The incredible environnements, the atmosphere, the immersion, the musics, all of that me want to play more...can't say the same regarding the gameplay...
Can't say about the story so far, but the pitch is very interesting, I'm expecting good surprises on that part.

The only thing I like in the gameplay are the new finish mooves that really look cool...But you waist way too much time with it before you have ccan control your character again.
Most of the time it enables the ennemies to come closer, and i get free hit just after the finish moove ><
So I just use it on the last ennemy now...
And it is not really usefull, just neat.

Concerning Dishonored, I was blown away by this game from the start.
Yes it is easyn but it does not matter at all.
The challenge in this game is to manage to compelte your missions and defeating or escaping oppenents the way you want to !
You have options.

You don't in Bioshock Infinite, and I agree with you, so far it loosk like a step back in the franchise.
Though it could be an early judgement, I'll wait to finish the game before having a final opinion.

Edit:

Ok i just got a sniper Rifle...and this action in this game is becoming even more stupid, I think I'm stopping here, this is a crap game.
I introduciton was nice, but I maybe foudn it a little too long, and there are many moments when you do nothing but walking peacefully.
It was ok but I was impatient to play the action scenes.
Now I know those exploration moments are the best parts of the game.

Yes, yes and yes.
Ivlichnov 25 JUN 2014 a las 10:22
To improve your combat experience, try experimenting with the different Guns and Vigors in the Clash in the Clouds arena based combat.

You can swap around Guns and Vigors between rounds, without having to worry about dropping the guns that you have upgraded.

This gave me a better understanding of the weapons and Vigors. So I had more fun with the combat in the main game.

I think that with Infinite, they didn't want to do a carbon copy of the original Bioshock and went elsewhere with the combat and enviroment. But things get progressivly more 'Bioshock,' as the gameplay is tweaked for BaS Ep 1 and then tweaked more for BaS Ep 2.

Lvlichnov =>

Yes but I should not feel to be forced to play something I don't like, hoping it will get better...
I feel I am waisting my time with this game.
If I also waste it here, to explain to you what i think of this game, it is because I don't understand...
Why did this game got so many good reviews from sites AND players ?
I thought it was going to be awesome !
Is that really the Goty 2013 ? And is this a Bioshock Game ?
The more I play the more I find it looks like a very very boring Call of duty game...

its not the dlc.. this game is very simple. I think you need to turn the difficulty on max but normal or whatever is really easy mode. they do that with games lately because they don't want people to get frustrated and upset and then not buy the dlc when it comes out.. kinda like how wow is a fraction of what it once was in vanilla. awesome atmosphere like you said.. but pretty simple. thats the trend these days :lonestar:

i'm playing in hard mode, and got rid of that crap OP dlc...
But the difficulty is not even the core problem, the gameplay is sooo basic...
Powers are so useless you almost forget you have some.
