Windows 10 Bioshock Infinite crashing on Startup, nothing's worked
So I've tried everything. I've tried all my compatibility options, I've tried running as administrator, I keep my graphics card drivers up to date, I took the game folder off read-only, I turned off the steam overlay, I've tried both -fullscreen, -nosound, and -dx9 options, and I've verified the game cache multiple times.

I'm out of luck and I don't know what else to do with this game. If someone could please give me something I haven't tried before, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm running:

Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHz
16 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX970M

Please, I need help.

it runs on my 4+yr old hardware running win 10 - maybe some background program interfering?
you should have a Documents\My Games folder containing Bioshock Infinite - did the program get that far to create the subfolders?

Yes, there is a Bioshock Infinite folder within my games in Documents. And I wouldn't know what programs could or coudn't interfere with the game.

nothing else has worked so far so try this ... go to ,,,\Steam\steamapps\common\Bioshock Infinite\Binaries\Prerequisites and run the two vcredist_x86* manually. these are "supposed to" be installed by the verify game cache but sometimes fail. also go into the D3D11Install_2010 folder and run .exe and the directx_Jun2010_redist folder and run dxsetup.exe. all 4 "should" say already installed.

Nothing doing. I did what you reccommended, and it asks to be allowed to make changes, then it crashes with no fanfair, not even a start up. No change from the usual behavior.

970m =laptop. did you go into the nvidia control panel and make sure the game is using the nvidia card and NOT the onboard graphics?

I have, and it was already set to that.

can you run the benchmark manually?
...\Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Infinite\Binaries\Win32 Benchmark.bat
Dr. Adcon Jul 1, 2016 @ 8:37pm
No, the benchmark crashes the same way as the main game.

well I am out of ideas. I installed this game on win 7, did a win 10 upgrade, did a win 7 rollback, and did a win 10 clean install. the game worked every time. i cant break it and you cant get it to run. I have win 10 64bit, an i7, 8gb ram and an nvidia 750ti so we have the same type of hardware. maybe you have some program running that is interfering?

I thought about that, and I tried to kill every program I could safely shut down, nothing doing. It even got to the main menu the first time I ran it, but as soon as the game tried to start proper, it crashed, and now it refuses to even run from now on.

I have crash files that were created, but I have no idea how to even open and read them, much less google them.

.STEAMSTART files, it looks like. One for every time I tried to start the program up.

drivers? I went thru this with another user on another game - he used the mouse/keyboard all the time. the game wouldnt start. turned out he had never updated his touchpad driver and after he did, the game worked fine.
Dr. Adcon Jul 1, 2016 @ 9:01pm
Nope, I made sure to update all my drivers after this trouble started. I'm just going to ask for my money back by this point.
