I could digress into another whole essay about how infinite is bad but ill just say it is competely void of any of the charm, exploration, mystery or atmosphere from the first two games.
Thats the true ignorance of this whole thread.
Its back to my origional problem with gaming in general. "They told me it was good and i payed $80 for it so it must be good right?" Its similar to The Witcher 3 how people overly praised what was actually the first playable game from that series. It wasnt the next best new thing in gaming it was literally the first game from that series that was acceptable as a video game lol.
I reccomend you go back and play infinite now 5 years down the road and see how it holds up after the hype. I guarentee it will be a very boring experience. The fact that it has no replay value in terms of character builds or choices doesnt help.
Infinite had nothing like that ... in any way. The game is on rails and its a boring journey that your forced to plow through one shiny golden interactive object to the next.
I like story about alternate dimension/time because it can create an insecure atmosphere. Everything can happen everywhere. The comstock/DeWitt duality was pretty clever, after all it is a story about a father and her child but the child is and isn't the child of Comstock. I really liked this duality.
Burial at See 1/2 explain the whole bound between Rapture and Columbia and the change of gamplay in the second part is in adequacy with the fragility of Elizabeth. I was pretty shocked by the ending. It brings tears to my eyes.
For you it is a bad thing that the game is on rails and it makes it a boring journey. I'm a RPG player in the first place so i don't have any problem with this kind of thing if the story (once again) is good. And you know that Bioshock 1 and 2 used also the "Point A to B to C and so on".
The difference of atmosphere : 1 and 2 are in underwater city which cause claustrophobia. Infinite is in the sky which cause another kind of feelings : fear of heights. It was interesting to get a point of rupture in the series it's not only a change of name but a change of atmosphere.
I could give you many more points why i liked Bioshock Infinite and 1 and 2 as well.
A "cool concept" does not make a good story. SHooting games have never had the best plots or writing and they never needed to. If you want good stories go play oldschool RPG's or read some books.
Again i find it interesting that people who enjoy this game seem to praise the story which is the worst element of the whole package. They have nothing to say about the level design, the gunplay, the abilities, the exploration, the replayability, the custimisation because all these other elements where also built poorly.
