(Because Capcom game reference.)
You have to change the game settings to 4P, as the default is 3P...
But then, this makes you choose your player number with a corresponding character on the main menu, before you actually start the game up...
It must be a weird thing that the original arcade machine did when set up for four players; make you specifically have to choose a certain player spot for your character.
But on that note, I have no idea if you can change this setting for online play... hopefully yes?
(See the bottom of the screen for the button/key to press to bring up game settings; it's X for a gamepad. Or at least this is how you go to settings for offline mode.)
...I was just messing about and randomly noticed that game defaulted to less players than its maximum, heh.
