Synth Riders

Synth Riders

Devs: Shame
This is advertised with "Muse", one of my favourite bands.

Imagine my surprise to discover that there are only 5 tracks available and they are all crappy dance bop ravey rubbish.

No rock at all.

In fact, after doing a search, to play with muse (two tracks available that I already own) I have to pay £2 per track!!!

What a waste of money and what a crap piece of software.

Most of this post doesn't make sense to me.

What do you mean there are only 5 tracks available? There are 52 free ost and 15 dlc? Do you only have the demo or something?

Imagine a game called synth riders focusing on synth music instead of rock lol.. it's like getting rock band and expecting electroswing tracks. That being said, there is also custom song support, so maybe look into that if you're looking for rock.

It's interesting that you call it a waste of money and a crap piece of software without even mentioning anything about the game itself, only the music selection (which seems like it's limited to...5 songs, based on the first part of your post).

Sounds like you should have done your research on what songs (and genres) are available in the base game if it mattered that much to you, instead of trying to shame the devs for having a perfectly accurate advertisement for their latest DLC pack (Synthwave Essentials 2, featuring Muse).

It is advertised with "Muse" - suggesting rock, or at least some alternative music to crappy bop rave dance ♥♥♥♥.

When I start the game there are only 5 tracks available. Everything I searched out was paid dlc.

I couldn't find a way to use my own music library, and other posts clearly state that this is impossible. I don't know where you found this. If there is a way of doing this then the software is vindicated. You say there is. The devs say there isn't. I couldn't find anything.

I did my research. On the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ store page it says "muse", but there is no muse (not even anything remotely in that genre). What more research do you think I should have done?

If I bought a film called "masked lunatic killer frenzy" and then found it was about teletubbies, that is pretty comparable!

...What? I have 52 free songs lol. Just click one of the other packs at the bottom when in game.

False, everywhere it says Muse it also says featuring. You can also clearly see that two of the Muse songs available are listed as DLC on the store page.

Also false, nowhere just it just say Muse with no context. And there are three muse tracks in the game.

If you scroll down to the "about this game" section you will find a link to the track list, as well as a bullet that says "Enjoy Official Custom Song Support" and "Create own maps with Official Beatmap Editor"

Idk where you're getting your info but it's clear to me you didn't actually read any of the page before purchasing, and are now getting upset that the game isn't catering to your arbitrary needs.

Did you read the big words above the "featuring Muse" that said "Synthwave Essentials 2"? Since you're a fan of Muse, I expect you knew that they released synthwave songs, so I'm surprised you didn't connect that to their synthwave releases, instead of just rock.

Did you click on the other music packs on the bottom? Or are you just looking at the first pack? There are definitely more than 5 tracks available for free.

I couldn't find a way to use my own music library, and other posts clearly state that this is impossible.
You can't autogenerate maps from your library, but the beatmap editor is free to use so you can create your own maps, and there is a site with already mapped customs (synthriderz.com) (let me know if I'm not allowed to post the link here and I'll remove it).

What more research do you think I should have done?
As mentioned before, the store page says way more than just "Muse". Also the description has a link to a spotify playlist with all of the OST tracks. That would have given you an idea of what kind of music is in the game (and also would have let you know something was wrong if you could only find 5 songs, since the description says how many songs are included for free).

Sorry if formatting is weird. Am on mobile

Oop exce already posted while I was typing. Mobile sucks
DAN-di-WARhol Jan 26, 2021 @ 11:55pm
@ exce: No, I read the freaking picture on the store page and assumed it would be accurate as it only had about 4 freaking words on it. Kind of hard to go wrong with that.

I've already refunded, but I recall that on my interface I found 5 free songs on the left and a load of paid dlc along the bottom. Couldn't find any way of accessing any other free songs.

@Dan, we are sorry to hear that our branding gave you a false understanding of what was Synth Riders and what content was included. It was not our intention and we will take your feedback under consideration while working on the marketing messaging for our future releases.

We are grateful for your (and all of our players') trust and buying our game. We understand your decision to refund it as it turned out to be something different than expected.

I've sent you a friend invite to discuss how we can make it up for you.

Hi aben.

Thank you for your response, and that won't be necessary. There isn't much to make up for really. The software just isn't for me.

Some greater musical variety, or even the ability to use our own playlists with spotify (like Audiosurf) might be a suggestion moving forwards to attract more players with different musical tastes.

1) Synth Riders does not really control what Steam shows on the store page. By default, Steam displays the logo for the most recent update, which, in this case, was Synthwave Essentials 2 feat. Muse. Not something the devs chose to do.

2) If you actually clicked the packs on the bottom instead of assuming they were DLC, you'd discover that *every single pack in this game, even the DLCs* have free songs in them available for all players (generally a few free with the rest paid, so you can get a feel for the style of the packs prior to paying for them). You not finding this information is nobody's fault but yours, literally all you had to do was try to click the other packs and you would've seen. There are multiple Celldweller songs in this game so the idea that there isn't "enough variety" is farcical - especially considering by your own admission you couldn't even find the other songs, so I don't know what you think qualifies you to comment on the variety of the songs.

@Von Marlin: Get off your high horse. "Featuring Muse" and then actually not featuring Muse at all without extra expenditure is nearly the definition of false advertising. The developers are entirely responsible for that.

Imagine a Doom game with a picture of a guy shooting an alien, and then you buy the game to find out, guess what? No aliens or guns. This is a kids game about snails! I suppose your perspective would be that complaining or refunding would be unjustified?

I have respect for the developers over their response, but the community for this game is so toxic.

Learn to read and stop using so many expletives and calling so many things crappy and likely people will respond better. The only person I see being toxic in this thread is you.

Let me just say that i had a similar disappointing first impression. I prominently saw MUSE in the description, i expected MUSE, and was very disappointed there are only two muse songs and they are both a paid dlc.

Nonetheless, i have played the game, and while initially i was very skeptical, i really love the game now. The base set of tunes is good, much more enjoyable (for me) than beatsaber stuff. And one of the MUSE songs comes with a surprise, a really amazing one!, which makes it somewhat justified to put MUSE so prominently in the description.

PS: bought it on oculus for quest2, not on steam.
