Crash Problems caused by windows update KB2670838
Hi Everyone,
Just something that may help with the people experiencing random crashes to desktop when using DX10 mode, basically remove this update (windows 7) and you will find the game runs fine.
I found this out when i couldnt get lost planet extreme conditions running in dx10 mode.
This update clearly messes up the way drivers interpret dx10 calls.

NOTE - It will remove IE10 and seems to affect Warframe running in dx11 mode. so far its the only game i have found to require this update.

Happy DX10 gaming

Thanks for the tip, but bioshock 2 still crashes to desktop even after I uninstalled this update,
I still have to type '-dx9' in the launch options.

update, after uninstalling bioshock2 from steam and re-installing it started working with dx10 on.
Thanks!

My game now does not lag... make all your graphics as low as they can and make the game windowed... my game workds greatly!

you are very welcome, i know how frustrating it is to have a game that on the same rig once played fawlessley then stops.

to the person asking about win 8 , this update is already part of the os since it is required for ie10 and ie10 is integrel to win 8.....gutted really.

i went back to 7 as a good few older games wouldnt run properly.

This fix is the first to get me playing in dx10 with no issues. Played about 2 -3 hours straight with no crashes at all. I've fought this issue for months now with the store bought version and FINALLY I'm enjoying this great game again. Thanks very much for the post.

Played for a few hours last night, also tested loading saves, not 1 crash yet, removing that 1 stupid update seems to have really fixed it!

Thanks!

Thank you for sharing Kendall1980! I was about to make a post asking if anyone had any luck getting the game to work crash-free in DX10 under Windows 7 since the GFWL-removal update!

I don't understand the developer's logic in releasing a game that supports features you cannot enable without crashes, I've noticed it's been like this since the original release as well. Such a shame!

Does anyone that owns Windows 8 (64-bit) know if it still crashes with DX10 settings applied? Would be interesting to know.

W8 x64 here, and the game was crashing towards the beginning of the game, but seems to be very stable now.

As far as uninstalling a KB Windows update to potentially get one game to work while uninstalling IE 10 at the same time? No thanks, not even remotely worth it.

Seriously? Fixing a game AND getting rid of Internet Explorer isn't worth it to you?! Good god man.

its a shame that its only really a win 7 fix , I went back to win 7 as i mentioned before so i could played older games.

But glad my findings have finally started helping some people .
