Chameleon (Natural Camouflage) invisibility issue
I have the game patched to 1.5 (non-steam, installed form disk bought when game first came out) and the chameleon tonic always ends up not working after a while, this time in the Fontaine Futuristics area (Gil Alexander stuff). I've seen the issue posted around other forums but no solution. Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

Into Persephone and it's working again. Go figure.

I got the chameleon tonic in Fontaine Futuristics and it never worked. I briefly tried it in Persephone and still no luck. I unequipped it. Shame, I liked it in Bioshock. For most of Bioshock 2 I was hoping to get it.

I've never heard of the chameleon tonic? We are talking Singleplayer here?

Guys, you do know that for camo to work you need to stand still for about 4 seconds, right? If this is not an issue then i dont know why you are having this problem. Played with camo in my both playthroughs and its always worked as it should. Oh there is one more thing! Big Daddies and Alphas as well as Sisters still can see you even with Drill Lurker and Camo equipped.

I've just done a little bit of research, apparently in both Fontain Futuristics and Persephone there is a bug in which it may stop working. So it is known, I dont think there is any solution however. It affects some people but not others. Moving through the level seems to work for some people

Well aware of how Cameleon works, hence noticing when it doesn't. As said in Jan, it just starting working again, so the bug mentioned by redstone sounds about right.

---Natural Camouflage---
+Tonic Earned by fully researching Houdini Splicers.
+ In B1 it was known as Chameleon.

+ Equip it, wait for about 3-4 seconds when there's no fighting around and presto! you become invisible.
+ Stealth status remains until an enemy bumps you, you fire a weapon or you move.
+ If there is a fight or a chase going on, the plasmid will take an additional 1-2 seconds to work out. This is perfectly normal.

There is a glitch with it, found either on Dyonisius Park -quite the grind to get the tonic here for research, depending on your plasmid set-up- or Fontaine Futuristics (which was the case of my second playthrough).
Some even had it at Persephone (which was my case on my first playthrough). This also happens on consoles as well.

There is no solution so far, but there is a way to be warned about it, according to what I have read:

***If you became invisible through this tonic and an enemy spotted you, there is a chance that, even though you dispatch him/her, you're "tagged" as seen, and the tonic will stop working for the rest of the chapter -luckily enough, until the next stage-, since the game will keep thinking of you as spotted by an enemy, that you cannot re-kill again. Unless, that is, that you restart the whole chapter where the bug happened***

So, taking this into account:
- Have a double save with a 10 to 15 minutes delay between them just AFTER YOU DECIDE TO EQUIP IT. Try to be invisible (as in "by the effects of the plasmid") on your first, most trusted backup savestate. And try to be invisible on any backup saving that you may do later, just to check your file has no bugs.

If worst comes to worst, you only lose very little time when reloading it.

- Save before the preset big fights -those when there's raining splicers + alpha series + general mayhem- and consider un-equipping Natural Camouflage if you think you can manage.
If you thing you don't wanna, just chack after the fight if the tonic works. If not, reload your save. This should have the problem in check.

This tonic CAN and WILL help A LOT on the final stages of the last chapter; it's up to you to deal with some Health and EVE extra consumption in exchange for a smoother final battle.

Of course, the ideal would be to have it fixed. Same with all the bugs Bioshock 1 had. Heck; the best remedy would be a full BS remaster and a gigabug check, but I believe we won't be having that i the near future, nor will solve the current problem.

I hope this helps. This game is so great and it deserves much more love and attention than the one it ended having. Cheers.

7 years had passed since this thread was made. A "Remastered Edition" came out, and it still has the same problem.

Bleeh...

Really? Hadn't bothered playing through that far in the RE but yea, "Re-mastered" my a**e, they just made it work out of the box for the modern system.

Last time I tried to play the remastered version, it crashed so much it was literally unplayable. As far as I'm aware it hasn't been fixed.

The original is probably a much better investment
