Wtf is this serial number?

I get the activation start up thing and I dont know what the serial number is, or all the other stuff.

I have a spot for "Serial Number" as well as "Unlock Code". If I leave one empty, it tells me to put both in. I tried my CD key for both and it it doesn't work either. If the CD key is the Serial Number, what is my unlock code?
