Any alternative way to update to 1.5?
So, here: http://www.patches-scrolls.com/bioshock2.php
The 1.5 patch.

I downloaded it and tried to run it but because it, for some stupid reason, has to auto-search for the folder for Bioshock 2 it can't find it.

Now the reason for that is that my computer has 2 hard-drives, one main, C, which is smaller and the larger one E. I install my games on E as I don't want C to fill up and I think that the installer for patch 1.5 can't find my Bioshock 2 folder as it tries to search through C.

Is there any other patch installer I can get or just a RAR file I can manually install?

[edit]

Oh and I do not have GFWL installed. Does Bioshock 2 still use that?

Have you moved the "My Documents" folder to another drive? As the game maybe looking for that folder.

I have Bioshock 2 installed on a second hard drive, but certain files are stored in "My Documents" on the C drive.

And as far as I know, Bioshock 2 on Steam no longer uses GFWL.

No, it is still in C.

Here's the message I got when running Setup.exe:

"Failed installing title update. See log at C:\users\YouStankGrrl\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWLive\Install\Logs\titleupdate.log for details."

Which says:

"Launching Title Update: "C:\Users\RotmosOchFleskkorv\Desktop\setup.exe" /selflaunch
Could not find game install folder
To manually set folder, run: "C:\Users\ImLonely\Desktop\setup.exe" /f "<path to game folder>""

Does it mean the "Run" command?

After clicking "ok" on the first window it then says:

"Bioshock 2 Setup Wizard ended prematurely

Bioshock 2 Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To update this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard"

So I Ran it, it installed, but said somethingsomethingLive.dll was not found. Dunno if that'll matter. Gonna try running the game. Last time it crashed precisely when the Big Sister cracks the glass and floods a room.

I also ran TitleUpdate.msi but I dunno if it actually installed anything.

Game doesn't open now so gonna verify integrity of game cache and see if that'll solve it.

48 files failed to validate and will be reacquired.

Ran the game, worked past the window being broken and having to walk outside the buildings on the ocean floor then it crashed again.

So to summarize: I got the update, version 1.5, and istalled the Setup through "Run commands", did the same for TitleUpdate. Game did not load so I validated my game cache and downloaded 48 missing files. Game still crashes.

Did I miss something or what?
Am I supposed to do something with the Media1.cab file that came along in the rar?

You shouldn't update the Steam version of the game. It's been updated and enhanced to SteamWorks now, fresh and bug fixed... mostly. Most of people still crashing on DX10, try use the DX9 startup command. Mostly helps.

Did that, didn't crash in 40 minutes so hopefully it'll work without any crashes.

Just for the record, the DX10 crash issue is NOT an issue related to Bioshock 2. Some time ago Microsoft released an update that for some reason botched DX10 support, and (to my knowledge) they never fixed it. Only 'fix' would be to uninstall said update but that would probably cause issues with getting more recent DX11 only titles to run properly.

Thankfully Bioshock 2's DX10 enhancements are pretty mild. (smoother smoke edges and slightly more realistic water effects as you walk through water)

My crashes with a GT 440 limited to 2 maps: Pauper's Drop and Fontaine Futuristics. Maybe crashed other times, but mostly crashed on these two maps. Other DX10 titles has no issues, even BioShock 1 runs smooth.

Been playing for 7 hours without any crashes by the way. So it seems fixed for me.

Finished the game. No crashes. Whatever I did solved my problem.
