Inner Persephone Crash
Hi there everyone hope you are having fun with your games.
I got a problem that have being really annoying for me the past couple of days.
I know the game in general have a lot of crashes, indeed the game random crashed for me from time to time but nothing big deal. I just ran the game again and could continue playing without any prob.
But now its different. In the game I'm about to enter Inner Persephone, the last level in the game. EVERYTIME I try to enter Inner Persephone the game crashes showing no error. EVERY single time. I just can't get pass that loadingh screen, it gets to the part of autosaving and boom, game crashes.

I've looked for "fixes" on google and here in Steam Discussions and found many of them. But, nothing worked for me.

I've tried:
- The -dx9 on launch options.
- Lowering the settings from high resolutions to lower ones.
- Modifying the suggested lines found in forums on the "Default.ini" and "Bioshock2SP.ini" files. (I did back-up the originals so after showing no difference I restored to the original ones)
- Letting the game use more of VRAM available.
- Turning off AMD Catalyst Control Center.
- Setting compatibility options to the game and admin too.

I think I tried a few more "fixes" but can't remember them. All the fixes I mentioned where suggested by people on the community and in other forums. Nothing worked for me.

I'm really desperate because I played the whole game to find out that I can't get to the very last level. It really pisses me off.

The only fix found on forums or the community that I didn't tried was the one of deleting the saves on the save files folder without deleting the folder. I didn't do that because I don't want to have to play everything again. Also, I haven't tried to re-install the game since people commented that doesn't work.

FYI, previous save files run perfectly. The only one that doesn't work is the autosave file of the Inner Persephone. I also tried loading a previous save, delete the autosave and enter again in Inner Persephone, didn't work.

As you can see I've tried pretty much everything out there and nothing happens. It just won't get into the last level and thats a really big shame.

The only thing I find odd with the game is that when I get to the room before Inner Persephone where you fight with two Brute Splicers and some Leadhead Splicers, Eleanor in her Big Sister suit summons herself without me using the plasmid for summoning her. I played the game before in a PS3 but I don't remember her summoning herself without being asked to. When I found that odd I decided to wait for her to dissapear since the summoning plasmid doesn't last forever. I waited a really long time and she doesn't go away. Also, I tried summoning her by myself with the plasmid and the same thing happens, she just won't go away. I don't know if that could be causing the game to crash or something but its the only thing I find odd with the game, everything else works just fine.

The specs of my rig:
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @2.67GHz
6.0GB RAM
AMD Radeon R7 250
Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit
1 TB HDD

I'm 100% sure all of my drivers are up to date.

Sorry for the long post :(

Lik dis if you cri evrytiem.

Hello there Aug 1, 2014 @ 8:02am
I know remember why I never played Bioshock Infinite... I can't finish Bioshock2 because it crashes all the time. So I got through 5 random crashes but now I am also on the elevator to Persephone, Sinclair is talking it's been several crashes but I can't seem to ride the elevator down. ... Woohoo after 10 crashes in a row I opened multiplayer for the first time never tried to do a match just ran around the appartment, game worked for 5 more minutes... Maybe someday I will find an old 2008 computer and be able to run this game.

My computer is also up to date including drivers it was purchased within the last 5 months, and yes I reinstalled the 2008 windows C++ reader. I have also spent time with 2K Games Tech Support but I was unable to resolve the crashing.

My computer specs are:
AMD A10-6700 APU 3.7GHz
12GB RAM
AMD R7 265 w/ 2GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
1 TB HDD

I could at least finish the game back in PS3 but this time is really a shame for me. When I played on PS3 the only thing I cared about was to beat the game, thats all. This time on PC I did everything perfectly, turned off vita chambers and hardest game difficulty to get all the achievements. And now I'm stuck before the last level, this really sucks. I guess I will have to just accept it and leave it like that since no fix is to be found.

So this might sound pretty stupid but... I could fix it. I was thinking about why the several fixes out there didn't work for me and I thought that those fixes are "general fixes", they work to fix every crash in the game. Not specific crashes like mine. Everything I did was to re-install the game with the thought in mind that maybe the files for the Inner Persephone level were corrupt and... it worked. Re-installing did everything for me. Guess I shoud've tried that before... oh well... It really is stupid. To anyone out there confronting issues like the one I had, re-installing fixed it all. Thanks.

Your auto--save is corrupted, you will have to load a previous manual save to continue [remember to manual save often]

I thought it had something to do with the auto-save, and I did delete it and loaded from a previous save and that didnt work. But I already fixed it, re-installed the game and now works. Thanks ^^
Had the same problem. What caused the crash for me (which I found out after a lot of trial and error) was that I had changed "HavokNumThreads=2" to "HavokNumThreads=4" as per an optimization recommendation (I have a quad core CPU) in "Default.ini" in SteamApps\common\BioShock 2\SP\Builds\Binaries. Changing the value back to "2" fixed the issue. I was able to keep all other optimizations I've made. The problem was initially solved by verifying cache, by the way, but I wanted to hunt down more specifically what was causing it and that value change was apparently the culprit.

EDIT: One should also check "Bioshock2SP.ini" in \AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2Steam for the same line. The number may have been changed from the standard value in there as well.
