Delta waking up

Did delta survive the headshot or not? I've heard people say he wakes up in a vita-chamber but he's clearly in a puddle, but then why is his helmet back on? Did he die and just fall out of the chamber or did he survive?

Delta died and fell out of the Vita Chamber.

He died, and got reconstituted at a Vita Chamber by Eleanor.

Even scientists at Rapture do not understand how the Vita Chamber works! All they know is that you have to have the Creator's Gene (Andrew Ryan's) and since all Alpha Series / Big Daddies were coded with the WYK program (that forced them to follow around, obey and protect little sisters unerringly) that's how I explain Delta being able to be reassembled at a Vita Chamber.
