Do you really play as a Big Daddy?

So I've never got around to playing Bioshock 2 but have tried Infinite as aside from a couple of references to existing in the same world they don't seem to be overly linked. Anyway...

Do you really play as an actual Big Daddy? That seems really well.... Different. You're basically this giant clunky mech thing with a drill arm and cannon? Surely must not play anything like the first game?

You do but you are a special one that can use plasmids too, so besides the drill replacing the wrench there isnt much difference.

The rivet gun is pretty cool too.
You are also more resistant to damage so there's more splicers against you.
