Purple Overlay
Updated my GPU (titan X Pascal) to the latest driver 419.17 and it creates a purple hue/overlay ONLY for Resident Evil 2. Launched a few other games from the Steam Library and they all start in normal color. For some reason Resident Evil 2 is the ONLY game that has this purple hue/overlay and I attempted adjusting the graphics settings multiple times, but I cannot get this purple hue/overlay to go away while the driver is installed. I had also tried installing older versions of the Titan X Pascal driver and the purple hue/overlay remains. The ONLY way to remove the hue/overlay is to uninstall the GPU driver completely.

Additional note: removing the Titan X Pascal driver does not affect the graphics for any of my games but I am concerned whether I am utilizing my GPU to the fullest when playing Resident Evil 2 without the driver.

Did some research online and this is not a purple screen of death. However, there were a couple times where red vertical lines (size of a pixel) would appear for a quarter or half-second then go away. This has happened in multiple games, and I am thinking the GPU could be showing signs of going bad.

Checking to see if anyone else has had this purple hue/overlay while Resident Evil 2 is running?

Never heard of this, but if you can show a picture how it looks...otherwise I can't blame the game nor your GPU...or monitor.

Well, on this picture I see nothing close to purple, I thought the overlay means that the screen has some strange color filter on or something, not covering the whole thing without seeing anything.

Can't even tell if it's from the game or not lol

All I can say is, try the game with a different video card, if we think back to the vertical lines, the GPU might be r.i.p soon.

If those lines are horizontal instead, it can be screen-tearing for not having v-sync turned on, but that's another story.

If I take a screenshot on my computer is normal. However, this is how it looks like on my TV when the latest driver is installed 419.35

Here is a photo from Anthem while the same driver is installed 419.35

When I boot up Anthem the card's fan does rev pretty high. I think the card is going bad. But for some reason the purple overlay is only in Resident Evil 2 2019

Oh, I found a fix for mine, It was something like changing a vendoretension option in config somewhere if you wanted to know
NEMESIS2K5 Mar 13, 2019 @ 10:48pm
Hi Jaylol,

Would the "vendoretension" option be something in the Resident Evil 2 settings or in the NVidia Control Panel?
Jaylol Mar 13, 2019 @ 11:55pm
Oh, sorry it is an INI config option change, have to change a settings file
Jaylol Mar 13, 2019 @ 11:57pm
It's the same bug as the one-shot demo, and the same fix posted elsewhere in the forums works.

Go to the RE2 folder, open file re2_config.ini and change this setting from enable to disable ...

UseVendorExtention=Disable

That worked instantly. Updated the value from "Enable" to "Disable" >> launched Resident Evil 2 (2019) and the colors are back to normal. Thank you so much for sharing the solution here.

Anyone else that may run into this issue, here is where you can find the INI config file:

1. Open Steam
2. Right-click "Resident Evil 2"
3. Properties
4. Select "Local Files" tab
5. Select "Browse Local Files..."
6. Launch (double-click) "re2_config.ini" (icon may look like a blank page with a COG wheel and the file is about 1 kb

7. 5th line down will be "UseVendorExtention". If the value = "Enable", delete that and type in "Disable"
Note: There are no spaces between words or characters here.
(ex: UseVendorExtention=Disable)

8. Save File
9. Launch or restart Resident Evil 2 (2019)

i can confirm that's what happened to my t.v screen as well. i switched hdmi port and the problem goes away or change the refresh rate ingame to 30 and it reverts back to normal but who wants to play re2 at 30fps when your hardware is capable of more. i followed the advice of nemesis and another change the ini file and the problem goes away. for people who got the purple overlay bug change the ini file by following this post. happy gaming!

CORRECTION
ITN'T NOT THE PURPLE OVERLAY BUG IN RE2 BUT IT'S THE HDMI NOT CAPABLE OF DISPLAYING HDR AT 60HZ. to test this go to windows settings then systems. go to display tab, under windows hd color, flip the play hdr games and apps to on. if it flips automatically back to off, it means that hdmi port is not capable of displaying hdr at 60hz. if it stays on when you toggle hdr to on then that hdmi port is capable of displaying hdr at 60hz. with the correct hdmi port selected, launch games like re2 or sekirothat have hdr capability (happened to me again with the purplish tint onscreen using the wrong port) you shouldn't see purple tint onscreen. for hdr games, make sure you select the right hdmi port otherwise you will get the said artifact or you could lower monitor/tv to 30hz.
