I do agree don't get me wrong RE7 was Great but it certaintly is easily outmatched by RE2R i prefer it's story more along with the designs
and theirs more lore to read lol cause n every RE i read all the notes
I'd say we need a Doom 3 remake, but I know that's a bad idea because I prefer the 'minimalistic tech demo' but they would probably elaborate on story and characters which would undermine the core experience.

RE2 main game > RE7 main game
RE2 Hardcore < RE7 Madhouse
RE2 DLC <<<<< RE& DLC in terms of creativity
Hop on ModDB and check out the insane overhauls that people have been doing with Doom 3.
I can personally highly recommend these two:
1) Perfected Doom 3 - it's a balls to the walls version with overpowered demons AND overpowered you. Lots more variety, and weapons all have creative alternative fire modes. Heck you can use the Soul Cube to summon a HellKnight to your aid. It's nuts. Plus it features additional Hell levels and a new bossfight.
2) Overthinked Doom 3 - it's pretty much a tactical rework of D3. New gunplay, MUCH scarcer ammo, and you need to be much slower and more methodical with your approach.
These are guaranteed to breathe new life into the game in addition to the various lighting and texture reworks.
