Is there an RE1 remake?
I can find RE 2 and 3 remakes - where is the first game?

Not quite a remake by the standards of RE2, RE3, and RE4, however as mentioned above this is the next best thing.
IMO, it is done to perfection and still, my favorite resident evil.

Have you never seen the original RE1?

The RE Engine remakes all have the same feel, not that it is bad or anything, but the 2002 remake is the unique pick.

I wasn't specifically referencing graphics!
RE2, RE3, RE4, changed camera/gameplay mechanics. Resident Evil 1 does have added content, and great improvements with graphics, voice acting, etc., but I can't compare quality from RE1 to RE2/3/4, to be honest, because they play so differently with how they're made. Incredible in their own right!
But, technically speaking, RE1 is considered a remaster, not a remake. By their definition, anyway.
It wasn't a jab at RE1 in the slightest; they're vastly different. That's all!

RE1 2002 is absolutely a remake of RE1 1996, not a remaster. It's an entirely new game, built from the ground up and widely considered one of the best remakes of all time. Perhaps you are confusing RE1 2002's "HD Remaster" from 2015 with the fact that RE1 2002 is a remake of RE1 1996. That was a remaster of a remake. It does get a little confusing lol.

That being said, Capcom has hinted that they are open to "remaking the remake" by bringing RE1 into the RE engine in a future remake but it hasn't been officially announced yet.

No. It is 100% a remake in a completely different engine with completely different assets.

The reason the store page is listed as "remaster" is because the version on steam is a remaster of the remake.

It is in absolutely no way NOT a remake.

Cheers guys. Turns out I already have that RE1 version in my library :)

Ah fair enough, however, my point still stands that in context of RE1, RE2, RE3, & RE4, it isn't to the same standard, obviously due to the massive time differences.

Agreed that we will more than likely get a remake of RE1 again, to fit the other's in the similar quality. :)

It is to a more exacting standard. It's why it's repeatedly cited as one of the best remakes ever done.

Agreed - tbh I wish we got a RE2 remake like RE1 as well.
I loved the camera system a lot. Still felt OG

Unpopular opinion here but even though I´m Resident Evil fan since the first hour on ps1 back in the day I always hated the fixed camera positions and tank controls with a passion.

I absolutely love how they made it in RE2 Remake with the over the shoulder camera and I think it is still possible to make a decent remake of an old game despite using a different camera and control scheme if they didn´t cut out and change so much stuff.

They really should have gone the extra mile and offered ots camera and the orginal fixed camera with tank controls for those who prefer that one and everyone would have been happy but unfortunately Capcom has the tendency to cut corners and cheap out on stuff which is why we got subpar remakes.

How they have butchered the b scenario in RE 2 Remake is inexcusable and don´t get me started on RE 3 Remake which is literally not RE3 anymore and an insult to anyone who loved the original game.

Anyway, I would love to have a remake for RE 1 with the RE engine and with optional ots shoulder camera in addition to the fixed camera with tank controls though without cut content of course because that would be heresy.
