Mr.X footsteps not loud enough while in the same room
Is this a setting from the game or maybe my audio device? It is definitely not working as intented.

When the tyrant is in the vicinity the footsteps are so fcking loud as it should be, but when he's in the same room as me I can barely hear them. It's like the steps are almost muted.

Delete msspatial.dll in the install folder and turn off spatial audio in the options.

You mean "3D audio" in the audio settings or something in another tab like graphics/gameplay tabs?

I mean 3d audio, yes.

Turn it off and delete the dll file.

Not to necro this, but this is the first post to pop up when googling this issue (and other than a single reddit post, is the only post talking about this issue)

This does not work. Deleting the DLL and turning off 3D audio does not fix the issue. The weirdest part is the last time I played this game (a couple years ago) I did not have this issue. Makes me think it may be a new bug introduced with the RT update.

It IS a problem with spatial audio. It wasn't implemented correctly. And yes, it's part of the RT update.

If deleting the file works also seems to depend on what your audio devices is.

I don't have spatial audio on in my windows settings. I did also try turning it on while leaving the file and keeping 3D audio on, didn't work. Nothing fixes his broken ass footsteps lol

Every time you start the game, you need to go into options, enable 3D audio, back out of the menus so that you see the "loading" icon in the top left of the screen, then go back into options and disable 3D audio.

This worked for me.
Ah, so THIS is the real fix. The game is not applying whatever audio settings correctly on launch. You have to CHANGE the 3D audio setting at least once after every launch. It does not matter if you keep 3D audio on or off, it does not matter if you keep or delete msspatial.dll, as long as you change the 3D audio setting, it fixes Mr. X's footsteps. You can keep it off or on as you like, as long as you change it, you can change it back, and it fixes it.

What a wild bug to introduce to a game.

Even wilder is that it never got fixed. I think they also ruined the TAA implementation, and I didn't even know about the motion blur bug either. RTX is pretty and everything, but seems like the DX11 branch is still the superior one despite whatever "upgrades" they brought to the RTX update, in which they broke more than they added.
