Why is RE2 48GB and RE3 is only 22GB?
just bought these and wondering why RE2 is so much bigger.

RE2 is about 25 GB, but i think it says 48 just in the "install" window.

It's a display bug that has been there since the dx12 version launched. Koala is correct, the game is about half that size.

I'm guessing due to the fact that the playtime in RE3R is about half of RE2R, could be wrong but thats my guess.

Its because people use obsolete hardware. They use non compressed textures, same trick they do for crappy "next gen" console hardware, also for ps4. That way they avoid the need of uncompress the trxtures. Also they install all languages files. They could make an installer where you select languages, but people would fail even for that task.
So because nowadays people is stupider than ever, you have senseless ♥♥♥♥ everywhere.
Burn Them All!

it's a simply display error that shows the wrong size
