Not being that far into the game, I am a little confused. Can't you just use a previous save?
As a side note about saving: It's usually a good idea to use a new save slot every once in a while in case something like this happens. Technically it's possible to run out of resources and not be able to finish the game so it's good to have saves that you can revert to if needed. It's definitely unlikely to happen in this game but still worth doing.
The only reason I refunded the first time was when they changed the game to dx12. People were complaining it messed up mods and stuff.
I just bought the game and thought it looked good and ran good, why make changes. So I refunded.
I'm not sure if I played it before that change, I never heard about it. But you should really give it a shot. It's a genuine masterpiece, one of my favorite games of all time. And if you're playing it for the first time I would actually recommend playing as Claire first. I think her story is much more engaging and for a few other reasons that I don't want to spoil I think her campaign actually ends up being a bit easier.
