RE has always been ♥♥♥♥♥ with the A/B cannon. they did the same thing in the original when it came to who killed the Tyrant in the first RE game. in RE3, they talk about Jill killing the Tyrant, but in Code Veronica, that's Wesker's entire beef with Chris is him killing the Tyrant.
writers always kinda picked and chose what elements were canon and which weren't. for instance, both Rebecca and Barry survive, but one of them always "doesn't make it" to the chopper in either scenario, so it's impossible to get that particular ending with both of them.
paradoxical, really. if Code Veronica continues under a canon "Claire B", great. but the established canon so far seems to be about the same.
