The original soundtrack swap saved this game
It really saved this game from being boring and mediocre. Without it it doesn't feel like RE 2 at all. On my first playthrough I wanted to finish it with the new one, but I had to switch it up even before I got the three medallions, because I almost fell asleep. It had no atmosphere without it.

I did my first playthrough with the new music and had a great time with no issues, though the Mr X theme did grate on me after hearing that stuttering movie trailer riser so many times. I then switched to the classic RE2 soundtrack for the B campaign and it elevated the experience tenfold. Something about the modern presentation with the 90s music gives it a whole different vibe, separate from both RE2 and RE2Make, almost reminding me of Twin Peaks a little bit. The pairing of old and new really works for me, and it gets me wanting to replay the original again sometime as well.

There's nothing wrong with the new soundtrack, it adds to the lonely atmosphere, being felt more than heard, but the classic music pulls you in to each moment with strong and dramatic melodies that will keep buzzing in your head long after putting the game down.

Honestly I can't defend the new music, especially when there is barely any music to begin with. No first floor theme, no second floor theme, no library theme, and it goes on. It becomes boring very fast.
