I've been working on it for a while but recently, thanks to Topaz Gigapixel, you can achieve pretty great results to upscale the backgrounds and the textures.

Thanks to another guy who is a programmer, we can finally propose a seamless HD pack.

You can check it out and try it here : https://www.reshdp.com/re2/

Any feedback appreciated :)

Looks really good! I'd hope Capcom would do that to the PC version and add it to Steam.

You can achieve this on a PS1 emulator with the resolution cranked to 8x native.

Not completely, some textures need to be replaced to achieve these results. Like the text and inventory items and the pre rendered backgrounds of course.

Emulators only upscale the 3D models, but leave textures the same or apply some filters to them.

Yeah, this looks much better to me than just upscaled emulator.

That's not how it works. AI deep learning actually adds in missing details, which is something traditional resolution increases can of course not do. That is how you go from this:

I mean, just look at these RE3 backgrounds that were improved with GigaPixel.

Now I want every classic RE with this treatment here on Steam D=

Or video results.

And we're only just getting started with deep learning. The possibilities with more advanced and better trained AI are astounding.
Wow, those are some profound results. Astonishing.

Well, it looks good. But is this Dolphin exclusive or is there any chance of something like this for the PC releases?

There's always a chance. Someone just needs to take it on.

This is not correct. They upscale the internal resolution which impacts 3d models and textures. However, there is limited data to work with compared to the deep learning AI which can be trained and then fed the proper resources to recreate an upscaled version by actually recreating the entire texture (detailed backgrounds in particular for games like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy).

The Sourcenext Port is easy to find, and using this mod - http://appleofeden.de-doc.com/index.php/downloads/resident-evil-2-classic-rebirth/ - easy to mod for. So is it possible to add the backgrounds mods for the PC version of OG RE2?
