Trainers work by hooking memory addresses in the game.

The new version means those addresses have changed.

The trainer needs an update too.

Will the game run when i update the trainer?

Unless the trainer had some sort of hack to improve performance, I doubt it's related.

Something went wrong with depot downloading.
Yep. Went against my better judgement and downloaded a copy of the game. Then compared the size of the files. The big file did, in fact, download. It's just the other packs didn't download.

Do you think the mods will work again with the new patch and the ulimate trainer? I'm not copying or moving RE2 folder outside somewhere else the game will get a black screen.

Moving the game has nothing to do with the black screen.

It was files not downloading correctly as you can see in that imgur picture.

Oh Lord, it's finally working. Didn't think I'd ever be able to see this game without having Windows 10 installed.

Still, will probably have to go W 10 eventually, because this is tedious to do each time I install a game.

Could also set up a linux partition.

Proton is absolutely fantastic.

Will try that when I have more free time. Thank you.

Copy the folder to somewhere else.

In my case if I wanted to do it, I'd be moving it from D:\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Resident Evil 2 to D:\Games\Resdient Evil 2

Then instead of running it by clicking play in steam, you run it by creating a shortcut to the exe in the folder.

If it won't run, create a text file called steam_appid.txt in the folder where the exe is. Put the game ID for RE2 in the text file. The id is:
883710

Works like a charm. Much better than my initial method of just having the backup and replacing the files each time I ♥♥♥♥ up and forget to run them Offline Mode accidentally updating the game.
Thanks!

Just a question. It probably don't, but is there a risk of the backup updating in this new folder?

Yeah, I don't know what the hell whoever from capcom was thinking when they typed up that just run offline crap.

And, no. Steam doesn't have write access outside its own folder and defined library folders.

Check your files. Make sure there aren't ones that are 0kb.
