Lickers are confusing me
I've been told to avoid this type of enemy like the plague and whatever I do, I should never attempt to kill one. I don't know if that's the playerbase trying to immerse new players into getting scared even more (even if the game already made me alt+f4 twice) or if this is actually true. But there are some instances where avoiding them without getting chased or hit is impossible.

1st Example: playing as Leon, in the dark corridor of the 2F, right beside the armory, there is always a licker either on the floor or on the ceiling, sometimes (very very rarely) he will patroll along the wall but even so bypassing him is impossible even if you reduce your walk to a crawl.

2nd Example: playing as Leon, after you get the second button for the Locker Terminal there will always be a licker right in front of the Lockers. Again, the space is so narrow that even if you were to walk on your tippy toes, you would touch him and you're dongled.
I managed to escape by tanking hits and healing across the way, which is a very ineffective method since heals are very scarce.

Can anyone point what I am missing? i greatly love the game so far and I wanna get to know what I'm doing wrong

There is a way to walk / get by every single one without disturbing them. Sometimes you have to lure them one way, to walk another.
For your first example, I take it you mean the one outside the STARS office? On the first time you go through the corridor, he is in an animation with the zombie and you have enough time to run and dip into the STARS office before he can attack. When you leave, walk along the corridor towards the locked end and 98% of the time, he will be on the diamond door wall. Just avoid that wall, and walk on by, unlocking the door and getting out of there.
On later run throughs of that corridor, his position changes and I recommend entering via the library end instead since half the time he’s right by the door for the shower rooms.

Your second encounter, I know he looks close but he has a period of ‘noticing’ you first where he makes a noise and sniffs the air. He wont attack you until he actually screeches so you have enough time to walk by and enter the locker room. When you leave, stand in the doorway and open it a few times to make sure he’s not right outside because sometimes he is. Let the door close to reset him and try again until he’s moved or turned away. Then walk on by.

If you want more tips or how to avoid every single one, add me and I can explain / show you :re2stars:

You can bypass every licker in the game except the ones that spawn with aggro.

If you're playing with a controller and therefore can adjust walking speed, keep in mind that it does not affect their aggro. Anything that is not running will not aggro them.

Lickers have 2 triggers: full aggro and 'scout'. The latter is triggered when you're in close proximity, at which point they will start to slowly crawl towards you until they reach point blank range, which is also a full aggro trigger.

Many players get stressed and start running as soon as the scouting mode triggers, therefore making the lickers go full aggro. Keep calm and keep walking.

Finally, yes you can fight them. Just fight smart. And yes they're all killable with a knife if you manage to circle them and keep them staggered.

Which there's only one and that aggro can be removed with a well placed Flashbang!

if you mean the one in the police station - yes, but there are also two in late game which can spawn in full aggro IF you pass a certain threshold I think

I've already debunked that as well in another post on this forum if I could remember the name I would go find it so I could link it.

What exactly did you debunk?
I tested that particular segment and they spawn in full aggro specifically if you sprint into that corridor.

That last bit is what I debunked! Instead of RUNNING try WALKING!

There's no need to circle a licker with a knife. And yes I'm aware that it is possible for them to jump up to the ceiling while being knifed, but it's rare. With a gun keeping behind them is a must. Knifing is the better option obviously, but doing so there is hardly any danger. So little so, that you can knife a licker right next to another licker in the lab area where the murf port is for the signal modulator, that you'll be 💯 safe. The other licker won't even know you're there killing his buddy.

I know, however there is no way of knowing that for a first timer because the lickers aren't there when you enter that corridor. So you run into the corridor and the lickers spawn in full aggro. It's meant to be an ambush.

Of course in subsequent playthroughs you know to walk there

There's literally a note down the hall from spade key that tells you to walk

Now to be fair that note is also in a bit of an awkward spot because its passed the door you're likely to go through first, something that could be remedied by having it moved either in the room through that door or next to the Spade key.
