This is partially because at the time RE3 came out, all the hype was on Code Veronica, which was at the time (if memory serves), viewed as the next major step in the storyline. Nemesis was viewed as pretty much RE 2.5 and aside from the Nemesis element, it's basically the same game as RE2. Though that one element added a lot of suspense to the gameplay.
I would love to see a remake of RE3... probably wouldn't even be that difficult since the original RE3 reused a lot of the areas from RE2. Come to think of it, these days RE3 would be viewed as a DLC and not a full-fledged title. I wonder if a remake of RE3 would be better received as a DLC for RE2....
Code Veronica was initially intended as RE3 but due to their contract with sony they changed it early on so that nemesis was the numbered title instead. Thats why its shorty than the other RE games and doesnt have a second characters, it was initially a spin-off. Code-V has half the game as a different character like RE2
This is true - and this is also why Code Veronica got the lions share of the hype... it was intended to be the next RE game and everyone knew it.
Honesly RE3 is proably jsut as popular as 2 becouse of nemessis.
+ They alredy have Mister X chaing you around in 2 which means they aledy have the framework for a dangerous oponent chasing you thruout the level.
just imagine Re3 with these graphics and nemesis chasing you all over the place
bursting trough doors and walls to get to you
and on top of that nemesis also wears a bulletproof suit just like Mr.X...
Like Djukor pointed out, Mr-X already chases you around the game just like Nemesis. Wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see a remake of RE3 that uses the same assets as RE2 remake and just replace Mr-X's art with Nemesis art, add some AI behaviors for using weapons, and call it a day. I still say RE3 would be better off as a DLC or stand-alone expansion to RE2 rather than a full-fledged game. So much of the original RE3 was just re-used art assets from RE2 anyway.
But who am I kidding? Even it if was $50-$60, I'd buy a remake to RE3 without a second thought. **lol**
This is coming from someone who like 3 more than CVX.
If RE2 is as good as we are expecting it to be, I wouldn't mind at all getting RE3 as DLC.
The ability to dodge on correct frames and buttons. Nemesis always being able to sprint after you. Nemesis using his rocket launcher. Quick decision events. Unique ammo mixing. Seeing new and unexplored areas of Racoon City while seeing the bomb drop at the end.
Sorry but not sorry. I will definitely buy a Resident Evil 3 remake standalone title at full price.
Edit: I forgot to mention the first instance of a Merc mode in any Resident Evil title ever came from Nemesis. Even though Resident Evil 2 had a Battle Mode that was somewhat similar.
RE3 is a full game, it will never be DLC. And if they remake it like RE1 and RE2 it will be longer and have more content than the original.
