Actually, Ada falling was taken from Leon A/Claire B in the original RE2. (Claire A/Leon B had a different fate for Ada and it was much less believable that she would survive.) The developers said at one point that Claire A/Leon B was the "canon" scenario, although there are some parts of Leon A/Claire B that happened too (like Ada's "death"). It's weird. This kind of thing happens when games are made with multiple endings. The remake took the things later games said happened and made it happen that way, rather than go with the multiple endings route the original did.

But yes, in canon Ada survives, because she shows up again in RE4.

If she is dead, Leon will be dead too.

If ada would be dead, leon would have made a move on halena.
But yes, in the original it did look like she died.

She gives Leon the rocket launcher moments later so she is alive. Why/How? Nobody knows, this is RE and relevant characters surviving things that are impossible to survive is everday stuff.
She has that Batman grappling hook, so yeah. A bit weird and fantasy like, but it's not like the whole series is grounded. Even tho REmake1, REmake2 and REmake 3 tried to be far more grounded than other games in the series.

Your saying it's more believable that she survived falling into a bottomless pit than just getting slammed pretty hard against a computer console by Mr. X? This was one of the biggest reasons I always felt Claire A/Leon B made more sense. I'm guessing the remake devs just felt the whole Leon holding Ada over a pit thing was more dramatic. And I guess they are right.
