its random

Its a critical hit mechanic. Probably like 5% chance per headshot with regular pistols. Can be that fully focused shots have a higher chance to crit.

ah i see. it makes sense. its very rare tho

It still requires an critical hit. Try to shot only with a small crosshair - don't spam with shots if your crosshair is huge.

Some people have the same opinion and others don't believe it, but:
IMO the position were you hit the head is important to increase the default critical hit percantage value of an weapon - also the small crosshair/correct aiming. All i can say is, that critical hits happens very often since i do this. It was harder, not impossible, for me at the beginning (and in the demo), but now i have almost no problems to let a head explode. There is at least 1 zombie per room with an exploded head, sometimes even the complete room.

Forehead + nose-eyes area and the same spot on the backside. That's the points were i always get more crits than with other positions. (as i've said, incl the small crosshair - just wait a second if you own a laser with Claire = focused as Overseer said)

Incidentally, which also agrees well with the positions of the cerebellum, diencephalon and brain stem. Which in turn would be more likely to kill zombies. So would fit well.

If you think that's impossible.... it's a simple if/switch case and a hitbox with areas as for the rest of their body.

It's random and also tied to the dynamic difficulty. But I have also noticed tha shooting them right in the forehead without hesitation will most-likely end up in a head pop.

Now, this could be like a placebo effect, but in this run I am using Wesker's gun, and I've had almost a 90% head pop on all zombies. Here I sit with 60+ 9mm in my trunk and 49 in my inventory, were with the Matilda I struggled for ammo, even when avoiding zombies and using my knife.

I gonna try and experiment

I have just tried this and I feel like I am scoring more criticals. Could be just luck and placebo effect though... :steammocking:

I have noticed that as the reticule just finishes zeroing in and I fire I get more criticals, I even got a couple in a row with good timing.

The Matilda does 100 damage, 150 if you let the crosshair shrink, and I think 165 on a focused headshot. Zombie HP typically ranges from 500-900, so around six or seven headshots without a critical is normal.

Unless you really need to kill a zombie, two shots to the thigh is enough to get by it.
